Uniswap’s mobile crypto wallet shunned by Apple

Since 2022, Uniswap Labs has been targeting iPhone users. With this in mind, it presented a new version of its wallet in October. Unfortunately, the crypto exchange is currently facing a major problem: Apple is refusing the new version, thus limiting the capabilities of Uniswap’s new mobile crypto wallet.

Within the Uniswap community, updates are multiplying. The last proposal dates from December 2022 and concerned the community governance process. As for the new version of Uniswap’s mobile crypto wallet, it was approved in October 2022. Early access to this tool was officially announced on March 3.

In a blog post, Uniswap Labs describes this new wallet as “the most reliable in DeFi”. It is indeed a fully autonomous mobile wallet that allows you to buy cryptocurrencies and NFTs on layer 1 and layer 2 networks, without switching from one blockchain to another.

Another feature of Uniswap’s new crypto wallet: stronger security. The seed phrases should be encrypted and stored through Apple’s Secure Enclave. The same is true for private keys.

A new version shunned by Apple

Uniswap Labs is talking about early access to its new mobile crypto wallet. Certainly, the new version is already available. On the other hand, its capacities will be limited. The reason is simple: Apple refuses its launch on iOS.

“Apple won’t greenlight our launch, and we don’t know why. We submitted our mobile app months ago, and even though we are 100% compliant with their specifications, we are still stuck in limbo,” Uniswap Labs explains in a long thread of tweets.

Apple seems to maintain a contentious relationship with cryptocurrency. Indeed, any crypto project goes through a long and expensive process (as is the case with the new mobile crypto wallet from Uniswap Labs). While awaiting the final verdict, the crypto exchange opened an internal TestFlight application.
