South Korea elects a pro-bit president

The new South Korean president, Lee Jae-Myung, is very favorable to Bitcoin. The list of pro-BTC countries is growing day after day.

A freshly elected president brandishes a gigantic golden bitcoin under the cheers, in front of the South Korean flag and financial screens in full euphoria. The image, in the comic book style of the 70s, captures a historical turning point: the alliance of political power and the crypto revolution.

In short

  • Lee Jae-Myung, new South Korean president, embraces Bitcoin. On the menu, Stablecoin backed by won, integration of the BTC into the national and ETF pension fund.
  • 2025, the year of pro-bitcoin nations: the BTC will be invited in all elections, and most certainly also in France.

Historical election

It was a very particular election following a period of great political uncertainty. In question, the dismissal of former president Yoon Suk-Yeol who had tried to declare martial law at the end of last year.

Lee presented the election as a “Day of judgment” against this attempted putsch which he described as“Insurrection” and threat to democracy. In this context, it was difficult not to ally with bitcoiners which are spearhead against dictatorial governments.

Like Poland a few days earlier, Korea joined the rapidly growth club of countries openly favorable to Bitcoin. But unlike his Polish counterpart, Lee Jae-Myung has already made several concrete promises. He notably undertook to legalize the Bitcoin ETF.

In the same perspective to limit capital outlets to the United States, Lee also pleads in favor of a stablecoin backed by Korean won. “We must create a stablecoin leaning against the won to prevent the flight of national wealth abroad”he had launched during a political debate.

Let us recall that Tether is obliged by law to invest its reservations in American public debt.

That's not all. Lee also proposes to authorize the national pension fund to invest in Bitcoin. This fund currently weighs $ 884 billion. “I will create a safe investment environment so that young people can build up a heritage and plan their future”he promised.

With more than 16 million Bitcoins holders (More than a third of the population), it was written in advance that the Korean political parties would eventually embrace Bitcoin. He will soon be an essential electoral workhorse.

The American vice-president underlined on the occasion of the recent Bitcoin conference in Vegas that the BTC was a “Strategically important active” for the United States. He stressed that China's distrust of Bitcoin was an opportunity for the United States to acquire a strategic advantage.

“Why does our greatest opponent oppose Bitcoin so much?” If the Communist Republic of China turns away from Bitcoin, the United States should kiss it ”he said.

It's just a matter of time before the whole world is walking in the footsteps of the United States. During the same conference, the assistant of the Pakistani Prime Minister announced the creation of a Bitcoins Strategic Reserve as well as the allowance of two gigawatts for the Bitcoin industry.

“Today is a historic day. The Pakistani government will create its own Bitcoins Strategic Reserve, and we want to thank the United States for inspired us ”he said. “We will keep these bitcoins and will never sell them never. »»

And in France? The debate advances slowly. Marine Le Pen broke the omerta by offering to undermine bitcoins thanks to the surplus of nuclear energy. On the left, François Hollande received a cohort of bitcoiners to discuss, nothing more.

However, according to a Deloitte – Adan study, 10 % of French people held bitcoins at the end of 2024 and 34 % planned to acquire it. As everywhere else, the BTC will be a key theme of the next French presidential election.
