A festival that assumes not to resemble a conference
The positioning is based on a formula that the festival claims: no actors, no consultants. On site, we meet founders, technical directors, investors and makers, not professionals on the panel. The program is calibrated for the meeting: the SHAKA Awards ceremony opens the ball on the first evening, a surfing and yoga session punctuates the second day, and the festival ends with a walk to the Biarritz lighthouse followed by a brunch facing the ocean. The dealflow format as much as surfboard is not an empty slogan: it is the mechanics of establishing relationships.
This is not a first attempt either. Born in 2022 under the name NFT Biarritz, the event was renamed SHAKA to broaden its spectrum to AI and tech in the broad sense, and claims its fifth edition. The 3-day ticket includes meals, drinks, activities and evenings, which changes the logic of a classic show: you don’t come to check off appointments, you spend three days with the same people.
SHAKATHON: AI that builds on-chain
New not to be missed for developers: SHAKATHON, the in-house hackathon, takes place from September 24 at 1:30 p.m. to September 25 at 4 p.m. The principle, summarized by the organizers: as a team, transform an idea into a concrete solution by combining AI, blockchain and hardware. The presentation of the challenge and the creation of the teams take place on the Main Stage on the first day, with a BOOST workshop to go from an idea to a prototype. For a builder, it is the opportunity to leave Biarritz with a functional project and, often, a team.
This format summarizes the ambition of the festival: not only to talk about AI and Web3, but to produce them on site. This is also what attracts investors, who come to spot projects being built rather than slides.
Who you will meet
The SHAKA Festival boasts more than 80 speakers, with a strong focus on tech, finance and the French ecosystem. Among the names already announced: Paul Midy, MP involved in tech issues, Rachel Delacour (CEO of Sweep), Francis Lelong (CEO of Alegria Groupe), Sylvain Theveniaud (founder of Allianz Accelerator) and Hervé Bloch (Le Fund), alongside Maider Arosteguy, mayor of Biarritz. Other speakers will be announced closer to the event.
This density explains the SHAKA Startup Challenge, which gives selected start-ups a few minutes to convince, live, a room where investors are seated in the front row. The profile of the contacts present, accelerators, funds and institutions like BPI France, is precisely what a founder seeks to meet. A useful point of attention: the presence of a platform as a partner or exhibitor is part of the sponsorship of the event, not a recommendation, and certain services remain subject to restrictions depending on the jurisdiction.

Ticketing is progressing in stages, and the deadline is approaching. The Early Bird at 120 EUR is already sold out; the Regular price, at 190 EUR, is the one in force, before a final Last Wave level at 240 EUR.
