Ethereum execution layer client Nethermind releases upgrade v1.20.2 for the upcoming Holesky testnet launch. This should take place soon and will replace the long-standing Goerli testnet.
In short
- Holesky, the new Ethereum testnet, is set to replace Goerli
- ETH Price Rises 5%, a Positive Sign for Holesky Launch
- Crypto price increase is also due to Grayscale’s victory against the SEC
Holesky from Ethereum, a more resilient testnet
According to Ethereum developers, Holesky is the first long-running public Ethereum testnet, merged from Genesis. It will replace Goerli as the staking, infrastructure and protocol development test network starting September 15 at 2:00 p.m. UTC. According to the statements, other Ethereum clients should publish updates in the coming days.
Separately, Ethereum lead developer Tim Beiko warns that the popular Goerli testnet may soon shut down. But first, the use of application developers would have to increase exponentially. Such exploitation would make it less reliable for future upgrades.
However, this does not represent a risk given that the launch from Holesky will not be long. Its goal is precisely to help developers test their applications and smart contracts.
Crypto, ETH price up 5%
The price of ethereum (ETH) is up 5% in the last 24 hours. It notably touches $1,720, while the trading volume increases by more than 150%.
In reality, this increase is probably due to several factors. These include Grayscale’s win against the US SEC. Indeed, Grayscale is an investment fund that offers a crypto-based ETF. The SEC had refused to approve the ETF, but a federal court overturned that decision.
Ethereum’s price increase is also due to the imminent arrival of the Holesky testnet. In fact, this is an important testnet for Ethereum. Therefore, its launch is a sign that blockchain development continues to progress.
The launch of the Holesky testnet is an important milestone for Ethereum. It will mark the end of the Goerli testnet and provide developers with a more reliable testnet to test their projects.
