Ethereum (ETH): Soon a series of upgrades on the network

The roadmap for upcoming Ethereum network upgrades has is being updated. On November 5, Vitalik Buterin, the co-founder of Ethereum, shared with the community a representative diagram of the updated version of this roadmap. Several major additions will arrive to make the Ethereum blockchain more and more efficient.

After the Merge will come the Scourge!

Vitalik Buterin’s post on Twitter noted that there are several important upgrades after the Ethereum merger. These include the Scourge upgrade. According to Vitalik, this new phase, which means “scourge” in French, has two main objectives. On the one hand, it aims to ensure reliable and fair inclusion of credible and neutral transactions “.

On the other hand, it will allow resolve SRM issues “. Note that according to the Ethereum Foundation, the MEV stands for: “The maximum value that can be extracted from block production in addition to the standard block reward and gas fee by including, excluding and changing the order of transactions within a block“.

With the Scourge, the Ethereum network should be more decentralized. The new phase involves features like PBS, which stands for Propose Builder Separation. The PBS solution states that different entities should be responsible for building and offering blocks in a blockchain. In this way, the security of the network can be ensured, as well as the prevention of attacks relating to the MEV.

Several“key steps”for the evolution of Ethereum

On his diagram, Vitalik Buterin highlighted several elements that are considered key steps. The co-founder of Ethereum clarified that these are essential for the evolution of blockchain.

Among these key steps, there is the “Single-slot finality» that includes the Surge, which is the first post-Merge upgrade. This step should make the network able to take only one slot for the processing of a block. Note that currently it takes 64-95 slots to finalize a block.

It appears that there are 5 major upgrades. There is the Surge, Scourge, Verge, Purge, and Splurge coming to the Ethereum network. Each upgrade is subdivided into several stages. One of the most notable steps is that ofSingle-slot finality, which aims to improve the overall speed of completing Ethereum transactions.
