CoinMarketCap shares its sentiment on the state of the crypto market

Now more than ever, crypto platforms are becoming prime targets for hackers. Just yesterday, the CEO of Binance issued an alert to this effect. Google would show fraudulent sites when users search for CoinMarketCap. This would be due to a bug.

Binance CEO ChangPeng Zhao Warns CMC Users: Google Shows Phishing Sites When They Search CoinMarketCap

Google shows malicious sites instead of Binance’s CoinMarketCap

Via his twitter account, the CEO of Binance wanted to warn users. A warning that CoinMarketCap also reinforced via a tweet. According to him, fraudulent sites show up when users search CoinMarketCap on Google. They must therefore be extra vigilant so as not to choose the wrong platform.

The malicious site would appear as a regular Google ad. As a precaution, each user must therefore carefully check the spelling of the link before clicking on the first line of the search result. It is even advisable not to click on the link that mentions “announcement”. It would be right above the original CoinMarketCap web that Google displays phishing sites.

According to ChangPeng Zhao, the most affected by this bug are those who try to add smart contract addresses to their wallets. After noticing this computer failure, Binance’s security team obviously contacted Google. A futile attempt, because until the moment we published the tweet, the problem persists.

Crypto phishing: a growing problem on Google

ChangPeng Zhao is not the only one to issue warnings. The problem that CoinMarketCap is currently experiencing is not an isolated case either. In recent times, more and more crypto users are indeed complaining about phishing sites. Frustrated, they accuse Google of being a scam promoter.

For example, Google would display a phishing site above SpokySwap. Some users even believe that Google would support and capitalize on scam sites via phishing sites.

As we speak, Binance (via its CoinMarketCap platform) isn’t the only victim of phishing. Cryptocurrency users should therefore be wary when browsing Google. Because of phishing sites, their crypto wallets are at risk of being emptied. Caution remains in order!
