Attack averted on Sui Network (SUI): Certik rewarded with half a million dollars

Sui Network has set up a program giving priority to any bug discovery on its network. According to the latest news, this young blockchain has awarded $500,000 to CertiK for reporting a potential attack vector. Big plan !

Sui suffers a cyberattack

Born a month and a half ago, Sui Network and its native SUI token have made a sensational entrance in the crypto industry. The new crypto-asset was listed on Binance, Bybit, OKX and Kucoin upon release.

Aware of the existence of rabid hackers, the team behind Sui has developed a “bug bounty” program: its own way ofcoax good pirates. And it worked, if we stick to the information shared by CoinDesk.

Indeed, according to this crypto media, the blockchain security company Certik discovered an infinite loop bug in the Sui network. With experience in the audit of smart contracts, this one made the signal to Mysten Labs and was awarded the sum of 500,000 dollars as a bonus.

Here is an excerpt from the press release published by CertiK on June 19:

Different from traditional attacks that interrupt chains by dropping nodes, the HamsterWheel attack traps all nodes in an incessant running state without processing new transactions, as if they are running on a hashter wheel. This strategy can cripple entire networks, effectively rendering them inoperable. »

The communication of this bug allowed the Sui Network team to increase its vigilance and to adopt appropriate measures.

Darius Goore, communications manager at the Sui Foundation, praised the initiative thus:

Thanks to the bug bounty program, but also a strong third-party auditing program, and extensive internal testing, the first six weeks of Sui’s mainnet have been remarkably smooth from an operational and security perspective. »

About the bug bounty program

THE official site de Sui explains it this way:

As the Sui ecosystem evolves, the potential for bugs and vulnerabilities arise. The bug bounty program encourages ‘white hat’ hackers to report issues, helping to maintain a safe and stable platform while rewarding responsible disclosure. »

The bounties promised by Sui can range from $5,000 to $500,000. The attribution of a sum depends however on the level of vulnerability of the reported bug.
