The giant of Iecommerce, Amazon, plans to launch a digital goods business this spring. II is reportedly working on blockchain-based games according to an anonymous source. This initiative would consist of encouraging customers to‘Amazon, to play blockchain games and earn free NFTs in the process.
Amazon plans to create an NFT platform
Blockworks reported that Amazon plans to launch an initial NFT-related initiative. The platform would be managed by itself and not by Amazon Web Services (AWS), its subsidiary already having a foothold in Web3. The initiative would consist of encouraging its customers to play blockchain games and then be rewarded with NFTs. An anonymous source said the platform could see the light of day next April.
To date, no official source has yet confirmed or denied these comments relayed by Blockworks. Amazon’s real intentions and goals for Web3 are not yet fully known. Nevertheless, Amazon is said to have approached many partners in the crypto industry. Among these partners are blockchain game startups or new crypto exchanges. Indeed, this news follows AWS’ recent partnership with Ava Labs, the company behind the Avalanche blockchain.
Amazon is more and more open to the world of Web3
It’s no wonder Amazon is getting into this business. Indeed, its CEO, Andy Jassy has already spoken on this subject. In an April 2022 interview with Squawkbox on CNBC, he said he believed the company would one day sell NFTs. Although the company is not ready to add crypto as a payment mechanism in its retail business, it believes crypto could become more prominent.
