BlackRock's IBIT Now Holds 3.8% of Bitcoin Supply Despite Record Flows

According to the latest disclosures, BlackRock's IBIT held approximately 802,257 BTC on Wednesday, valued at approximately $97 billion. The ETF alone received $426.2 million (around 3,510 BTC) in net inflows on Tuesday, pushing it past the threshold of 800,000 BTC. These holdings now represent 3.8% of the fixed bitcoin supply limited to 21 million.

This achievement puts BlackRock's Bitcoin fund well ahead of Michael Saylor's MicroStrategy, which holds 640,031 BTC (around $78 billion), or 3.1% of the total supply. This rapid growth highlights the rapid dominance of regulated investment vehicles in institutional exposure to bitcoin.

Timothy Misir, head of research at BRN, said the recent eight-day streak of net inflows into ETFs highlights sustained structural demand for bitcoin. He noted that the growing participation of corporate treasuries strengthens bitcoin's position as a strategic reserve asset. At the time of writing, bitcoin is trading around $122,500 after a 97% rise over the past year.

BlackRock tops ETF flows: IBIT attracts $1.21 billion in a single day

On Monday, Bitcoin ETFs recorded their largest daily inflow since Donald Trump's pro-crypto victory last November, with $1.21 billion. Since their launch, U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs have seen nearly $63 billion in cumulative inflows — led by BlackRock's IBIT with around $65 billion — although outflows from Grayscale's converted fund have dampened that total slightly.

Nate Geraci, president of NovaDius Wealth Management, noted that spot Bitcoin ETFs are seeing unprecedented momentum, with $5.3 billion in inflows over the last seven trading days, including $2 billion in the last two days alone. According to him, this increase exceeded initial expectationsdenying skeptics who predicted a peak of $5 billion for this category.

In a post Wednesday, Eric Balchunas, senior ETF analyst at Bloomberg, reported that IBIT led all ETFs in weekly inflowscapturing $3.5 billion, or approximately 10% of total net flows across all ETF products. Balchunas added that even Grayscale's GBTC saw inflows during the week, reinforcing the strength of current market demand.

In another milestone, IBIT also became the world's largest Bitcoin options platform, holding $38 billion in open interest and surpassing Deribit, recently acquired by Coinbase.
