Successful test for Pectra: Ethereum ready for its big update?

On March 5, 2025, the long -awaited upgrade of Ethereum, called “Pectra”, crossed a crucial stage with its successful deployment on the Sepolia test network. This advance brings the Ethereum community closer to the integration of Pectra on the main network, thus marking a major evolution since the last update in 2024.

Ethereum validators who are joyful after the success of Pectra

Ethereum pectra validated: imminent launch?

Pectra includes 11 Ethereum improvement proposals (EIP), aimed at optimizing various aspects of the network, including stations, wallet functionality and the overall network efficiency. Among these improvements, the EIP-7251 is distinguished by increasing the validators' limit of 32 to 2,048 ETH. The EIP-7702 Smart Contract capacities for portfolios, allowing programming similar to that of traditional contracts, thus improving the user experience.

However, the path to this success was not without pitfalls. The previous week, a test on the Holesky network had failed due to a bad configuration among the validators, causing a split of the chain and making Holesky temporarily unusable. This incident had raised questions about the deployment calendar on the main network.

Despite this setback, Success on Sepolia Reinforces confidence in the stability and efficiency of Pectra. The developers plan a meeting on March 6 to assess the test results and determine the official launch date on the main network. If the remaining tests take place smoothly, the deployment of Pectra on the main network of Ethereum could take place in April 2025.

The ETH/BTC ratio at the bottom!

This advance occurs when Ethereum has a good increase of almost 3 % over the last 24 hours, Currently trading at $ 2,230. However, this progression is not enough to reverse the trend of the ETH/BTC ratio, which recently reached its lowest level since March 2021, reflecting a loss of momentum for Ethereum in favor of Bitcoin. Regulatory clarity and technological updates could certainly change the game for Ethereum, as Ryan Lee, chief analyst at Bitget thinks:

The underperformance of Ethereum against Bitcoin, reflected in the ETH/BTC ratio reaching a hollow of four years, is motivated by the institutional domination of Bitcoin, the unclear narrative of Ethereum, the weakness of the activity of the network […] However, historical models suggest a potential rebound if catalysts such as regulatory clarity or emerging technological upgrades … Improvements of stake could rekindle enthusiasm by mid-2025.

Pectra upgrade therefore represents a significant advance for Ethereum. This strengthens its position as a platform of choice for decentralized applications and could even allow the network to take over on Bitcoin and cause a Bull Run in the crypto market.
