Is Bitcoin really “a real religion”? Answers from a crypto-skeptic

Facing proven lack of bitcoin reviewsSalomé Saqué finds it useful to invite a cream from among French crypto-skeptics. His last show on ” BLAST, the breath of information gave a 48-minute interview with Nastasia Hadjadji, digital economy and technocritical journalist. This did not fail to shed critical light on this global phenomenon supported by a crowd in search of an alternative to traditional finance.

Bitcoin, a “true religion that carries a reactionary ideology”

Nastasia Hadjadji is not the first journalist to compare bitcoin to religion. In May 2022, Loran Roche Kelly also made the same analogy stating that the queen of cryptocurrency is akin to ” the first true religion of the 21e century ».

For more information on what this reporter at Irish Farms said, take a look at this article.

Bitcoin, a new religion?

Otherwise; Let’s go back to this interview between Salomé and Hadjadji, respectively author of “Be young and shut up” and “No crypto”.

At the start of the program, the journalist from Blast France emphasized the almost non-existence of serenades concerning bitcoin. By inviting Nastasia Hadjadji on her set, she set herself the goal of having answers to these questions :

  • what are “cryptocurrencies”?
  • how did they captivate the world?
  • and what dangers can they represent?

The digital economy expert began by skimming ideologies and political goals around cryptographic technologies.

Towards the 13e minute, she finally approaches this famous analogy between bitcoin and religion:

I speak of bitcoin to indicate that beyond the currencyin any case of thefinancial asset, there is a whole ecosystem, both a philosophy, but also a network, etc. And maybe I could add something about Satoshi mythology : is that, in fact, around this character, this quasi-messiah, this prophet, a discourse is precisely aggregated. A speech with which we can do very, very strong analogies with religion.

This discourse is therefore based on a philosophy, this idea that in fact we must privatize the currency, reinvent the currency outside the institutions that traditionally frame it (states, central banks, etc.), favor as a counterpoint to this traditional and centralized management of the currency decentralized, private management between individuals. Between individuals, moreover, who do not trust each other – there is a very strong mistrust vis-à-vis the natural trust in the institution currency for the followers of crypto-assets.

And so, this philosophy, he incarnates it in fact, by his gestures. This is also why he acquired this mystical staturewhathe refused to be the central node of the network by withdrawing. That it put its precepts in place a little bit, and that it aggregated around it succeeding – in fact if you will, the ancestors of bitcoin had failed in a lot of places which were adoption, but also get out a bit circle of ‘initiated geeks’.

Where Satoshi, via bitcoin, managed to gather around him a community of followers which have spread via mechanisms that can be compared, moreover, to mechanisms of proselytism, of religious discussions.»

And it didn’t stop there

There is also in this speech, this mystique around bitcoin in particular, a very strong eschatological dimension. Eschatology is to say: ‘the end of the world is near’, ‘the collapse of our financial and monetary system is imminent’, it is this idea of collapse, of great reset that we will find in certain conspiratorial speeches elsewhere »

And the only way to guard against it, by the way, is bitcoin… and cryptocurrencies “, she continued.

Reactions from the crypto community

During the exchanges, Salomé Saqué had complained about the violent character of crypto-enthusiasts. In comments for her broadcasts on BLAST, aggression, insults and threats against her abound, she says.

By taking a tour of these platforms, we have retained these few remarks:

  • Saque only invites crypto-skeptics to its setlike Nicolas Dufrêne, director of the Rousseau Institute;
  • YouTube comments aren’t just from bitcoiners or crypto enthusiasts, the views are disparate;
  • and also the critics never stopped the BLAST reporter from backtracking.

However, treat all the irrational bitcoiners is inherently illogical. Indeed, many of them demonstrate rationality by making statements on the collapse of the banking system, the skilfully disguised totalitarianism behind the CBDCs, etc.

A pro-crypto slipped this comment on YouTube:

I find the speaker very caricatural. Most of the bitcoin criticisms she makes are applicable to the current monetary system. »

He also mentioned the similarities between banking and bitcoin on these axes: irreversibility of transfers, financing of criminal acts, tax evasion and financial crises.

Regarding the establishment of a religion around bitcoin, @rorschachy confirmed the existence of a “ abusive favor on cryptos that makes many people who defend them lose rationality. »

But this projectile of irrationality can also reach Salomé Saqué, who persists in inviting only people from the other side of the shore.

The Bitcoin speaker, Alexandre Stachchenko, did not fail to leave him a note on his LinkedIn account.

In conclusion, we will agree that with or without bitcoin, humanity is in search of a new paradigm that will emancipate it from the scavengers who have held the reins for a long time. As for the “big reset”, it can only be done with the right tool.
