In the race for Ethereum Exchange Traded Funds (ETFs), financial players are rushing after the endorsement for Bitcoin trackers. Grayscale Investments, in the running for these funds, is accelerating the pace to force the Securities and Exchange Commission to rule before June 18.
Grayscale reaches a major milestone: Heading towards the Ethereum ETF
The US SEC is dragging its feet on endorsing Ethereum ETFs. Its postponement arouses analysts’ conjectures about a crucial date.
Investors want and deserve access to Ethereum in the form of a spot Ethereum ETF and we believe the case is just as strong as it has been for spot Bitcoin ETFs. »
In the frenetic world of digital assets, it’s a busy time at Grayscale Investments. The asset management company, known for its flair in the cryptocurrency space, recently filed an amended application with the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). At stake: approval of a spot Ethereum Exchange Traded Fund (ETF).
Craig Salm, Grayscale’s Chief Legal Officer, echoed the announcement on Twitter, describing the update as a crucial step in their quest to list the Grayscale Ethereum Trust (ETHE) on the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) Arca. With the June 18, 2024 deadline fast approaching, uncertainty reigns over the SEC’s decision.
The stakes are high. If approved, this ETF would provide investors with an easier way to access Ethereum, meeting the growing demand for the cryptocurrency. For Salm, this approach is in line with Grayscale’s previous successes, notably with Bitcoin ETFs.
However, waiting has become the new normal. The SEC, usually stingy with rapid approvals in the area of crypto-ETFs, recently delayed its decision on applications for Ethereum-backed spot ETFs. Patience is required, with a series of deadline extensions, the last set until June 18, giving the regulatory authority the necessary time for a careful assessment.
This delay is not exclusive to Grayscale. Other applicants have also faced extended delays, in a process that seems more like an administrative marathon than a sprint toward approval. As the fateful day draws closer, eyes are turning to the SEC, eagerly awaiting a decision that could shape the digital finance landscape for years to come.
