It is often the liquidity of large exchange platforms that decides the fate of cryptos, and the concentration of volumes on Binance makes it the essential barometer of major market trends. While investors were watching for the slightest signal of scarcity to justify a rise in prices, the latest fundamental data has just dampened hopes of an immediate rally.

In brief
- XRP is facing a surge in supply on Binance, sending its scarcity index to a more than three-month low.
- This abundance of tokens reduces the chances of a rally, due to a lack of sufficiently strong demand to absorb the available volumes.
- The pressure quickly spread to the derivatives market, triggering more than $13.5 million in liquidations, mostly on long positions.
- These converging signals call for caution, as Binance becomes more than ever the main indicator of XRP dynamics.
The collapse of the Scarcity Index: an abundance of tokens on Binance
The crypto market is experiencing a major technical shift after the release of data from the CryptoQuant analytics platform. Indeed, the major indicators reveal a fundamental change in the existing supply structures for the asset:
- A drop in the rarity index: the “XRP Binance Scarcity Index” recorded a dramatic decline to collapse around 0.34, reaching its lowest level in over three months as the crypto trades near $1.13;
- The reversal of the spring trend: this figure marks a clear break with the months of April and May, a period during which this same index was close to the 0.80 mark, reflecting a particularly tight supply;
- A historical perspective: after reaching highs above $3 in previous cycles, the price stabilized in a lower zone, while the scarcity indicator made a lasting turnaround.
This increase in the available supply of tokens on Binance reduces the scarcity effect which had made it possible to maintain the price of the asset in the past. CryptoQuant analysts corroborate this quantitative observation by clearly stating that “the index fell to around 0.34, its lowest level in over three months, illustrating a relative increase in the available supply of XRP on the platform compared to prior periods”.
The end of supply constraints and its technical consequences
The increase in liquidity available on Binance's order books profoundly modifies the price structure and neutralizes buying forces. From a purely technical perspective, when the scarcity of an asset eases on a major exchange, the barriers to selling it fade away.
Deposits or massive stocks of tokens intended for trading act as a cap, blocking the price from rising and keeping the market in a phase of immobility. This phenomenon justifies the recent weakness of the asset, which is struggling to maintain its upward dynamics without the arrival of a demand shock capable of absorbing this surplus of tokens.
Experts agree that without a radical transformation in trader psychology or the emergence of a major fundamental catalyst, the likelihood of rapid price appreciation remains statistically low. Market reports are sounding the alarm and predict a continuation of this trend.
As the CryptoQuant study notes, “a further drop in scarcity could imply greater liquidity of XRP on the exchange, potentially limiting the likelihood of strong upward price movements unless accompanied by a significant increase in demand or improvement in investor sentiment”.
The massive capitulation of long positions
The deterioration of on-chain data in the spot market has led to a violent chain reaction on leveraged ones. According to the latest data compiled by Coinglass, the price drop to $1.0573 caused a wave of massive liquidations amounting to $13.53 million in the space of twenty-four hours.
These liquidations are organized in an extremely asymmetrical manner and unfavorable to buyers: long positions alone represent $13.01 million in losses, compared to only $518,890 for short positions. With $7.59 million in positions swept away, Binance stands out as the epicenter of this capitulation, followed distantly by Bybit which has $2.57 million.
This widespread purge reflects an excess of optimism among derivatives traders, taken by surprise by the reversal of the scarcity index. The fact that Binance concentrates almost all of the liquidations demonstrates the fragility of the speculative positions taken on this specific platform. This forced clearing of order books removes the catalyst needed for an immediate technical recovery, as the market must now rebuild its open position structure in a climate of heightened distrust and heightened risk aversion.
In light of these cross indicators between spot and derivatives, the outlook calls for the greatest caution. On the one hand, such liquidity can be viewed positively by large institutional investors who wish to execute large orders without moving prices too much. On the other hand, for individual traders, this abundance on Binance is like a leaden screed, which exerts diffuse bearish pressure.
