From March 17, 2025, Tisséo allowed Toulousains to pay their bus, metro, tram and cable car in crypto. This initiative, a first for a European transport network, aims to diversify the means of payment and follow the evolution of financial uses.

The Tisséo network accepts cryptos for the purchase of tickets
Since Monday, March 17, 2025, users of the Tisséo network in Toulouse can buy their metro, bus, tram and cable car tickets in crypto.
This innovation, unprecedented for a European transport network, responds to the evolution of French payment habits. According to a study by the Gemini platform published in 2024, almost 18 % of French people already hold cryptocurrencies.
Sacha Briand, in charge of finance in Tisséo, explains this initiative:
It may be 20 or 30 % in two to three years. In order not to miss the mark and for the sake of modernization, we launch this means of payment.
He precise that transactions are immediately converted: ” Users will pay in cryptocurrency which is converted into fiduciary currency so that we touch the sum in euros. »»
This novelty is part of a wider strategy for diversifying payment means, also including the upcoming launch of a rechargeable ticket.
Mixed reception and adoption prospects
The reactions of Toulouse users remain contrasting in the face of this innovation. Questioned at the exit of the Basso-Cambo metro, Camille, a woman in her thirties, admits that she does not intend to immediately use this option: ” I have no crypto wallet And I am not sure that it concerns many customers. »»
However, it establishes an interesting parallel: ” The bank card was marginal at its launch, and today it is the majority! »»
Patrice, a sixty -something, expresses more skepticism: ” It seems to me to be a false modernity. For me, cryptocurrency is interesting to invest, but I am not convinced that it is adapted to pay small sums. »»
This new service is part of a broader trend in the adoption of cryptocurrencies in traditional trade. In November 2024, the Le Printemps Haussmann store in Paris also joined this payment method. For the moment, payment in cryptocurrency on the Tisséo network is only available on Android devices.
This daring initiative positions Toulouse as a pioneer of financial innovation in public services, anticipating the growing adoption of daily digital assets. If the experience succeeds, other European transport networks could quickly follow the example of the Occitan metropolis.
