Hayden Adams, founder of Uniswap, believes that Solana is today the best blockchain to develop decentralized finance (DEFI) at layer of layer 1. A position that relaunches the debate on the limits of the modular model of Ethereum.

In short
- Hayden Adams, CEO of Uniswap Labs, recognizes the strengths of Solana for the DEFI on Layer 1.
- Ethereum favors a modular approach while Solana excels in monolithic architecture.
- A debate emerges on the future of Blockchain platforms and their respective specializations.
Solana, a more favorable terrain for the DEFI according to Uniswap
Hayden Adams, founder of the famous Uniswap protocol, did not mince his words:
Solana has a better roadmap, a better team and a better approach for the DEFI L1.
This statement intervenes in a context where Ethereum, formerly undisputed bastion of the defi, seems to be oriented towards a modular architecture with an increasing dependence on layer 2 solutions.
Conversely, Solana continues to bet on a monolithic approach, that is to say a direct and unified execution on the base layer. For Adams, this vision is more consistent with the needs of the DEFI, which requires speed, efficiency and low transaction costs.
He considers that returning to a robust and scalable layer 1, like that of Solana, would be healthier in the long term for the ecosystem.
This position is opposed to that of David Hoffman (Bankless), a fervent defender of Ethereum, who says that no other blockchain can match the security and resilience of the network. According to him, Ethereum L1 remains “the natural house” of the DEFI, while the L2 must play a role of unclogging.
A technical, but strategic debate
The divergence of views between Adams and Hoffman reflects a deeper cleavage on the future of blockchain: should we build everything on a single basis, or fragment the functions on several layers?
For Adams, the multiplication of L2 adds unnecessary complexity and dilutes the user experience. He thus calls to refocus efforts on blockchains capable of absorbing the volume of the deffi natively, without overlay.
With this in mind, Solana has undeniable assets: high flow, reduced fresh, and an increasingly mature development environment. Qualities that are attracting more and more DEFI projects seeking an efficient alternative to Ethereum.
This vision is opposed to the modular approach of Ethereum, where applications are increasingly deploying on layer 2 solutions, favoring the safety of the main layer while looking for performance elsewhere.
Adams' position suggests a more nuanced vision of the blockchain landscape, where each platform could excel in specific fields. This perspective is all the more interesting since Inniswap Labs recently launched Unichain, its own layer 2 solution on Ethereum, while deploying its version 4 on twelve different blockchain networks.
