What is the Singapore FinTech Festival?

It is one of the largest global digital finance meetings, organized by the central bank of Singapore itself. The 2025 edition, the tenth, brought together more than 70,000 participants from 142 countries and territories and more than 900 speakers, according to the results published by the organizers. The MAS had announced trials of tokenized vouchers settled in central bank currency, as we reported in our article on Singapore tokenized vouchers.

The 2026 edition is organized by MAS and the Global Finance & Technology Network (GFTN), with the Singapore Banking Association, according to their press release of August 26, 2026. The festival resembles a car show where we would also meet the authors of the highway code: companies and regulators exhibit side by side. Read as an operation, it serves to position Singapore at the crossroads of digital finance; for the visitor, it costs a pass and a trip, but gives access to central bankers rarely gathered in the same place.

What place for crypto on the program?

The 2026 theme, “ The Coming Rewiring of the Financial System » (the upcoming overhaul of the financial system), is broken down into five sub-themes. Several directly affect digital assets, depending on the official themes page : the “tokenization chain”, corporate treasurers who choose their settlement asset between “ deposits in dollars, local currencies or stablecoins ”, and the rules on digital assets which are starting to apply in the first markets.

There tokenization consists of representing an asset, such as a bond or a share of funds, in the form of a token on a blockchain. To understand this mechanism, read our explanation of tokenization. The boss of the GFTN already summarized the issue during the previous edition:

The next decade will be about harnessing AI responsibly, scaling tokenization securely, and preparing for a quantum future.

What does that change for a European reader?

The festival offers a showcase for the European debate on digital currency. On the public side, the ECB is preparing the digital euro, a central bank currency in digital form; on the private side, 37 European banks, including BNP Paribas, BPCE and Crédit Mutuel, are preparing a euro stablecoin with Qivalis, awaiting approval from the DNB, according to the Qivalis website. The chairman of the Qivalis supervisory board and a leader of the authority examining his file will be on the same poster.

The ECB does not see the two projects as incompatible. On April 1, 2026, Piero Cipollone estimated that “ private settlement assets will play a role “, in particular ” Euro-denominated stablecoins issued in Europe “, according to the text of his speech (Tremplin.io translation). For a saver, the difference remains clear: the digital euro would be issued by the ECB, a stablecoin is issued by a private company, whose solidity depends on its reserves.

The festival opens on Wednesday, November 18 at the Singapore EXPO. Two things will have to be monitored: what the ECB will say about the digital euro, the legislative framework of which was still in the hands of European legislators in the spring, and possible announcements from the MAS on stablecoins and tokenization, as in 2025 with its tokenized bonds.
