Sam Bankman-Fried: BBC chronicles the fall of the king of crypto

Tonight, the BBC is premiering a 90-minute documentary dedicated to the fall of the “King of Crypto”, Sam Bankman-Fried. Highly anticipated, this documentary looks back on the meteoric rise and sensational fall of SBF. On the menu, a new version of the story which could well clear the king of crypto still behind bars.

The Legend of the Crypto King Premieres on Media Giant

While everyone awaits the trial of Sam Bankman-Fried scheduled for next week, the BBC unveils a new documentary on the man. Entitled “Panorama: the fall of the King of Crypto”, it is a 90-minute documentary dedicated to SBF, former boss of the crypto exchange FTX. It is believed to have been produced from a series of interviews and research with former SBF employees and associates.

On the BBC iPlayer platform, the rhetoric used to present SBF is rather ameliorative. According to the announcement, the film explores red flags overlooked by the crypto community “blinded by SBF’s charities, scruffy appearance, and fame.” SBF is presented as the “genius” who dreamed of “transforming the crypto universe and who became the big loser”. BBC plans to broadcast the documentary for 11 months straight, following tonight’s premiere at 8pm.

A publicity stunt that the king of crypto does not deserve, according to some

SBF is currently in prison and will remain there throughout the trial since his request for release on bail was rejected. His parents are also the subject of a lawsuit. A good part of the crypto community thinks that SBF does not deserve all the publicity that the BBC documentary will give it.

Indeed, the premiere of this documentary comes one week before his trial which is scheduled to begin on October 3, 2023 in Manhattan. Since his arrest, several books, films and documentaries have been devoted to his person and the FTX saga and several are reportedly awaiting publication.

SBF was arrested a month after the collapse in November 2022 of the $40 billion crypto exchange FTX. The debacle had caused losses to more than a million users and caused the fall of several crypto assets and crypto companies. We can’t wait for the matter to be resolved soon and for users to recover their funds.
