North Korean hackers allegedly stole over $100 million from Atomic Wallet users, not 35 million as reported earlier, and compromised about 5,500 crypto wallets, according to Elliptic. The crypto community is deeply shocked by this exploit. Indeed, Atomic Wallet is based on the principle that makes the user is primarily responsible for the security of his assets. Users are in distress as the company proves unresponsive to their cries.

Why doesn’t Atomic Wallet say anything about these hackers?
Several people, including those who lost money in this hack, believe that the company’s silence is explained by the functioning of the wallet. Indeed, Atomic Wallet is a non-custodial decentralized wallet. Her principle fundamental therefore rests on the fact that users are the first and only responsible for the security of their assets. Wallets are hit with an impressive feat coming pirates of Lazarus groupFor the moment, more than 5500 addresses are compromised, according to an analysis conducted by Elliptic.
Since the attack reached such a scale, Atomic Wallet did not provide any explanation. What does not reassure the victims. The company had however communicated on June 3 on this attack. At the time, it had not yet gained momentum. Atomic Wallet then declared that “less than 1%” of its user base had been affected. Today is a different story.
Will Atomic Wallet users be able to recover their funds?
The Lazarus group is not on its first flight. According to Elliptic, he has already stolen more than 2 billion dollars. Elliptic therefore quickly mobilized to freeze the stolen funds. But only one million could be frozen. In response, the hackers immediately transferred the funds to Garantex, a Russian platform that would be used for money laundering. He is unlikely that all stolen funds will be recovered. Last year, hackers have gone with over $3.8 billion. Several of them are directly linked to North Korea.
Atomic Wallet does not seem to be able to recover the stolen funds. The company does not even seem able to explain the method used by hackers. But why this heavy silence, could the error come from itself?
