MicroBT unveils its latest WhatsMiner in Miami

MicroBT, the Bitcoin ASIC maker has unveiled its latest WhatsMiner model which comes to match the best.

WhatsMiner vs Antminer

The best currently available is Bitmain’s S19 XP antminer. The latter has an efficiency of 21.5 W/TH.

Its ASICs can therefore produce a terahash (1000 billion hashes) with only 21.5 watts. It produces 140 TH per second and requires a power of 3010 watts (3010 W / 140 TH = 21.5 W/TH).

Its competitor MicroBT (whose CEO is Yang Zuoxing, a former Bitmain employee) has just caught up by presenting the M50S++ model in Miami.

“”MicroBT is pleased to introduce three new models in the series WhatsMiner M50 during the Bitcoin 2023 conference. Air-cooled (M50S++), water-cooled (M53S++) and immersion-cooled (M56S++) models. » »

Three different cooling versions:

  • Air-cooling (M50S++) producing 150 TH per second
  • Hydro-cooling (M53S++) producing 320 TH/s
  • Immersion-cooling (M56S++) producing 230 TH/s

This last model is particularly interesting. Indeed, Bitmain does not have in its range an antminer specifically designed to be immersed in a heat transfer liquid (10 L of liquid per WhatsMiner).

The efficiency of these new WhatsMiners is 22 W/TH. Almost as much as Bitmain’s S19 XP. And for a slightly higher hashrate of 150 TH/s.

This WhatsMiner therefore offers a small space saving. A container will be able to embark a fleet of miners with a power of 2.4 MW.

MicroBT and global warming

MicroBT is aware of the disasters associated with climate change. The firm made it known in this clip broadcast during the Bitcoin conference in Miami where CEO Yang Zuoxing s staged:

“Mine or survive? “What is the best mining strategy?” Zuoxing Yang, Founder and CEO of MicroBT, gave a pre-recorded speech on May 18 at Bitcoin2023. Here is the full version »

In particular, underclocking options are highlighted, that is to say the possibility of reducing the hashing frequency. Or the reuse of heat generated by WhatsMiners.

Emphasis is also placed on the possibility of turning off and on regularly his WhatsMiner without causing wear.

It’s nice that ASIC manufacturers communicate this way. Especially since the BTC mining industry is already one of the greenest in the world, consuming more than 52% carbon-free electricity.

Let’s finish that Block is also on the heels of Bitmain. Jack Dorsey’s company is working on the design of a 3 nm chip. What to obtain an efficiency closer to 15 W/TH?
