Billionaire and staunch dogecoin advocate Mark Cuban has made a shattering prediction about artificial intelligence (AI). According to him, it will bring enormous benefits, but will also cause massive job losses.
AI, massive adoption to come
According to Cuban, AI is set to develop exponentially in the coming years. Initially confined to limited uses, it will eventually interfere in all areas of society. The billionaire talks about revolutionary applications:
- High-performance personal assistants that perfectly understand user needs and emotions.
- Robots capable of performing the majority of manual tasks in place of humans.
- Expert medical algorithms diagnosing diseases and suggesting the best treatments.
- Autonomous vehicles transporting people and goods safely.
- Creative programs generating art, music and stories from scratch.
According to Cuban, we are only at the beginning. In 10 years, AI will be everywhere and improving every aspect of our lives. But obviously each technological revolution is also accompanied by side effects that must be anticipated.
Big job losses to be expected!
Drivers, workers, administrative employees, traders…all these professions are potentially in the hot seat with the advent of AI.
Even highly qualified professionals could be affected. Medical diagnostic software is already threatening the status of general practitioners. Automated content writing endangers the profession of journalism. And, creativeAI, DALL-E 2 programs are capable of generating professional quality images and designs.
“We risk ending up with millions of unemployed if we don’t take the lead,” says Mark Cuban alarmed. “We must now put in place safety nets, and think about a universal income which would make it possible to compensate for the massive job losses. »
Elon Musk: tech-savvy optimism versus Cuban caution
Elon Musk, another tech figure, also recently made predictions regarding AI. According to him, in less than three years, AI will be able to surpass humans in just about every area. Musk therefore believes in an extremely rapid development of AI capabilities, even going beyond Mark Cuban’s predictions. It remains to be seen whether this very optimistic vision will come true, or whether the caution recommended by Mark Cuban is not wiser in governing the advances in AI.
If these safeguards are respected, AI could truly improve the lot of humanity, Mark Cuban wants to believe. But the path will be narrow between a virtuous adoption and a drift with catastrophic consequences. The call is being made: governments, businesses and citizens must work together for an AI transition that is both ambitious and ethical. The future of our societies depends on it.
