Crypto: Why does the end of the Ripple (XRP) trial is hardly reacting the markets?

The end of the endless procedure which opposed the dry to Ripple was surprised anyone, because investors already anticipated this withdrawal under the effect of a pro-Crypto turn driven by the Trump administration. If the announcement marked the closure of one of the most emblematic judicial files in the sector, the markets had integrated this outcome long before its formalization.

The deserted court, marked by silence and disillusionment. The Crypto XRP, alone and disoriented in an empty court, embodies the end of a fight between Ripple and the dry ... without applause.

The final fence of the dry case vs ripple

This March 19, Brad Garlinghouse, CEO of Ripple, formalized the decision of the Securities and Exchange Commission of the United States to withdraw its appeal. “The dry has just deposited a surrender,” he declared. He described this outcome of “resounding victory”.

This announcement puts an end to one of the longest and most followed legal battles in the sector. The procedure was initiated in December 2020, when the SEC accused Ripple of having raised $ 1.3 billion via the unregistered sale of titles in the form of its XRP token.

Several intermediate judicial decisions had gradually eroded the position of the regulator, until this total disengagement.

The factual elements that make up the heart of this litigation are multiple:

  • In December 2020, the SEC initiated prosecution against Ripple for the provision of unregistered titles, which aims for XRP sales;
  • The amount in question reaches $ 1.3 billion, according to the accusation;
  • In July 2023, a federal judge declared that sales on secondary platforms did not constitute an offer of titles, which weakens the thesis of the dry;
  • Brad Garlinghouse and Chris Larsen, co -founder of Ripple, were also personally targeted by the regulator;
  • After several calls and counter-appels, the dry finally renounces to continue, without conditions;
  • Garlinghouse described the procedure of “political maneuver” and affirmed that “the law had finally prevailed”.

This decision now opens the way to a resumption of Ripple's domestic activities, strongly hampered since 2020 by the exclusion of the XRP of many American exchange platforms.

The final withdrawal of the SEC also prevents the establishment of a preceding regulatory applicable to other crypto projects.

Between moderate expectations and technical rebound potential for XRP

The end of the dispute immediately influenced the markets. The XRP recorded an increase of 13 %, and reached a peak at 2.56 dollars. In the process, Bitcoin won 2.2 %, and climbed to 84,096 dollars, while Ethereum jumped 6.6 % to reach $ 2,031.

If the announcement of the SEC caused an immediate reaction to the XRP course, several analysts temper enthusiasm.

Nicolai Sondergaard, analyst at Nansen, said: “It was, to be honest, already expected at this stage”. In addition, he adds that “the macroeconomic situation and general uncertainty do not really promote XRP”.

He explains that the market had already anticipated the abandonment of prosecution, which limits the extent of the initial rebound observed on the markets. This lack of momentum would also be linked to a generally dynamic general atmosphere on the entire cryptos market.

Despite this short -term inertia, certain technical signals suggest more marked bullish potential in the coming weeks. Graphic configurations identified by several observers suggest an increase of 75 % of the XRP by June.

The token has rebounded on the lower trend line of a technical triangle, with an intermediate target set at 2.35 dollars and a potential peak at 4.35 dollars, if the bullish break is confirmed.

Conversely, a break under the base of the triangle could invalidate this scenario, which would bring the price around $ 1.28.

Beyond technical considerations, the resolution of the file with the SEC could produce lasting effects on the regulatory climate and the perception of the crypto sector. Radin from Fideum believes that this evolution will have a “long -term positive effect on the market due to the change of narration”, with a more open regulator and a more favorable institutional dynamic. In a context of political repositioning and reinforced expectations around cryptos, the XRP could benefit from a renewed dynamic if the external conditions align.
