La Liga, the premier football league in Spain, is heading into the Metaverse. Indeed, the organization announced a partnership with Globant, an Argentinian software giant. The goal is to offer Web3 and Metaverse experiences to its fans. The partnership will combine the technological resources of Globant with the technical division of La Liga. We can expect the creation of products to extend the reach of the organization in the digital domain.
The La Liga objective behind this partnership
Major sports organizations are moving closer to the digital world in order to target new supporters and offer new interaction possibilities to their users. La Liga, the premier football league organization in Spain, recently announced a partnership that will serve to extend their digital reach. The organization has partnered with Globant, a Buenos Aires-based software giant, to create metaverse and Web3 experiences for current fans and new users.
These new additions would complement LaLiga’s technical division’s current digital offering, which currently includes fantasy gaming, website design and development, and other areas. The press release describing the agreement hints at the possible development of games using these new technologies. However, no concrete product was announced directly as a result of the partnership.
A pioneering Metaverse organization
La Liga is an organization behind several projects aimed at digitizing part of its operations. This month, it partnered with Ethereum (ETH)-based Metaverse platform Decentraland. The goal is to offer licensed IP experiences in any of the available plots in its Metaverse. The organization recently launched its own app, called MAS, which includes blockchain technology to protect the identity of its fans.
Furthermore, the company has entered the traditional game asset market. It offers licensed products in the Minecraft game from Mojang. In the game, users will be able to buy a skin pack to equip any character with the shirts of the different teams present in La Liga. La Liga have also presented projects based on NFTs before. In 2021, she partnered with Dapper Labs, creators of NBA Top Shots and Cryptokitties. The ambition of this partnership is to issue NFTs describing the best moments in the history of the league.
