The cryptocurrency sector is facing a new major security incident. Humanity Protocol, a project specializing in decentralized identity, suffered a major compromise resulting in the theft of more than $32 million. Following this attack, the H token lost more than 80% of its value in a few hours. Humanity Protocol at the heart of an attack that empties several wallets
The Humanity Protocol project has confirmed a significant compromise in an already tense context for the crypto market. A hacker obtained the private keys of a member of his foundation, which allowed him access to several wallets linked to the protocol.
According to blockchain data relayed by Coindeskapproximately 17 wallets were emptied. Losses now exceed $32 million. The attackers then resold the stolen H tokens for ether, greatly increasing the selling pressure on the market.
This situation caused the price of the token to drop rapidly. The price rose from around $0.67 to almost $0.13. During the session, the token even briefly touched $0.05. For Humanity, this decline represents one of the most difficult episodes since the launch of the project.
The H token weakened by sales and new tokens
Alongside the sales made by pirates, the Humanity Protocol team also has to manage another risk factor. On-chain data shows that an additional 100 million H tokens were issued on the BNB Chain, with an estimated value of around $11 million.
Faced with this situation, the Humanity Protocol team has asked its users to temporarily suspend the use of its cross-chain bridge as well as its liquidity pools. She also specified that she was working with cybersecurity companies and several exchange partners to contain the consequences of the attack.
The protocol is known for its decentralized identity system based on palm scanning and zero-knowledge cryptography. Through this approach, Humanity seeks to allow users to prove their identity without disclosing their personal information.
Private key thefts dominate crypto incidents in 2026
This attack is part of a broader trend observed since the start of the year. The industry's biggest losses now come from theft of private keys rather than flaws in protocol code.
In this context, Humanity Protocol joins the list of projects affected by this type of incident. Tokenomist data also show that approximately 266 million H tokens, valued at nearly $28 million, are to be released on June 25 through several allocations related to treasury and strategic reserves.
Prior to this event, Humanity had raised $50 million from 27 investors. While the theft was still in progress, the price of the H token was trading around $0.13, down approximately 82% for the day. At the time of the reaction, the price is hovering around $0.05.
