Openai strikes a big blow. With a rounding by SoftBank, the IA company wins $ 40 billion. Result: its valuation increases to 300 billion. A strong signal for the whole tech industry!

Softbank injects 40 billion into AI: Openai's strategy is entering a new dimension
It seems that the Company IA OPENAI enters an unprecedented growth phase. The financial contribution of 40 billion softbank is indeed the largest private funds ever registered in the technological sector.
The valuation of Openai now reaches $ 300 billion, positioning it just behind SpaceX in the classification of the most valued private companies.
Most of the funds aims to strengthen technological infrastructure. OPENAI thus plans to allocate 18 billion to the Stargate project. The purpose of this program is to create a large network of data centers specializing in AI in partnership with Oracle, SoftBank as well as other industrial players.
In his press releaseOpenai claims to want to use these resources to develop systems capable of:
- stimulate scientific research;
- personalize education;
- amplify human creativity;
- Approach general artificial intelligence (AG).
Technical ambitions are accompanied by a long -term vision. Openai seeks to impose itself as the architect of a world AI centralized, efficient and durable.
Record growth that pushes Openai to review its structure
Openai will first receive 10 billion softbank. To unlock the remaining 30 billion, the company IA will have to leave its hybrid model to adopt a fully capitalist status.
Indeed, the clause included by SoftBank provides for a reduction in its investment to 20 billion if the legal transition is not carried out before December 31, 2025. This turn therefore implies a formal disengagement from the historic non -lucrative branch, founded in 2015. It will require downstream:
- from Microsoft, a major strategic partner;
- of the Attorney General of California.
According to experts, this change could make emerge internal tensions. Elon Musk, co -founder of Openai and recurring critic of his governance, could indeed oppose this reconfiguration.
Beyond legal considerations, the transfer of the model also raises questions about the very identity of the company: can it still embody a beneficial and open AI while yielding to the most classic financial logics?
In any case, Openai confirms (once again!) His role in the IA revolution. Its future will depend on its ability to combine technological ambitions, economic requirements and ethical responsibilities, as shown in the roadmap recently unveiled by Sam Altman.
