Elon Musk said on X, formerly Twitter, that he would remove the like and retweet buttons from the main timeline. A major change which sparked mixed reactions from users, but also the crypto community. According to the CEO of Tesla, the objective is to improve the readability of the platform. After changing Twitter’s name, we don’t know how many more changes the network will undergo. Meanwhile, the many changes are already being felt in the user experience.
Continued changes on Twitter
Elon Musk plans to remove the buttons that make Twitter unique. Indeed, the “like”, “retweet” and “quote” buttons will be removed from the main timeline. Only the number of views will be displayed on the timeline. However, Musk assures that this will only be the case until a post is clicked. Employees gave a better overview of the development and how to modify the X timeline.
Since his acquisition of the Twitter platform, Elon Musk has not hesitated to make major changes. The most important undoubtedly being the change of the name to X. Then he also announced that he would remove the account blocking button. That’s not all because the platform also plans to delete all engagement accounts.
Improve the readability of the platform
Elon Musk clarified that the removal of buttons aims to improve the readability of the platform. X employee Andrea Conway provided details on current projects. According to her, the design team is working on replacing buttons with gesture interactions. These include double tapping and swiping.
This change is simply an improvement in the readability of X. It is therefore possible that the functionalities will remain the same. For example, users will still be able to “like” a post by double tapping. They will be able to swipe to reply to a tweet. The buttons are simply hidden in the main timeline. For now, this is just a project. We do not know if these deletions will actually take place.
In any case, removing these buttons could have significant consequences when it comes to information sharing within the crypto community. Indeed, until now, this platform is the most commonly used by investors in the cryptosphere.
