Normally, when supporters of a blockchain discover a new application for it, they rejoice: the use (and therefore the value) of their assets will probably increase. Normally… Because for a few weeks, the bitcoin maximalists are bent on a new standard that has appeared on their own blockchain: the BRC20.
Understanding the Rejection of Bitcoin Maximalists
To understand this rejection, we have to go back a little. THE bitcoin maximalistsas we know, have been constantly enraged since the appearance of Ethereum and its layersof its smart contracts and DeFi. For what ? Because, according to them, the multiplication of altcoins and protocols would not only delay the adoption of the one and only true revolutionary currency (BTC) but also the conversion of a public opinion baffled by so many offers – and disgusted by so many scams.
But the worst was yet to come: the enemy is coming today to challenge them on their own lands, after some managed to add “information” about tiny fractions of bitcoin (the satoshis), turning them into “NFT” and “ERC20” in a way. The process is simple: on each of these satoshis (1/100 millionth of BTC), now identifiable since numberedwe add metadata (“registration”) and here they are “unique”: these tattooed satoshis thus become collector’s items or new coins (BRC20). The store of value on the bitcoin blockchain is therefore no longer limited to BTC but also to bits of it, transformed into jewelry by the ingenuity of a passionate avant-garde. Awesome ?
No way.
The subject of the BRC-20
The hostility of maximalists was immediate: the contempt of some (“The BRC20s won’t last… ”) while others, such as Luke Dashjr Or Ali Sherief outright claim BRC20 ban in a… centralized and authoritative way.
The official reason for this rejection, we repeat, would be the need to fight against any form of pollution that would delay the advent of Bitcoin monotheism, creating diversions and dysfunctions (on May 5, for example, activity related to BRC20 caused an explosion in transaction fees and a temporary network outage). And then, the very concept of BRC20 would be a trickery: there has never been either BRC1, BRC2 or BRC19, for the good reason that on bitcoin, we talk about Bitcoin Improvement Proposal (BEEP). Pure marketing! Sacrilege…
But one can suspect another reason for this hostility, a much less glorious reason. BTC holders are often just lucky: they entered the game at the right time. They were turned into millionaires not by their talent, not by their social usefulness, but by sheer luck. And suddenly see beggars deploying and exchanging BRC20s then dancing to the tune of Bitcoin again! makes them really angry.
Their aristocracy takes a hit. The doors of their Olympus open to the populace. Imagine that: BRC20 fans transform yellow coins into purple banknotes, cents into hundreds of euros… Do they think they are in 2009 or what? Intolerable. The BRC20 movement must be killed. Discredit him.
So the war began.
Will BRC20 early adopters submit?
To be continued…
