LThe daily volume transferred to the Solana blockchain has exploded by 335% in the last 7 days. This meteoric rise in transfer activity between blockchains is believed to be linked to one of the largest token distributions in Solana history. Most of the funds transferred came from Ethereum.
Massive increase in transfers following record distribution of Jupiter tokens
According to data from Galaxy Research, the massive increase in transfers to Solana corresponds chronologically to the distribution of Jupiter tokens. Jupiter which is one of the largest DEX projects on Solana.
Indeed, on February 1, Jupiter distributed one billion of its native tokens, or 10% of the total supply, to users of the platform before November 2, 2023. This is the largest distribution of tokens ever carried out on the Solana blockchain.
This event was a huge stress test for the Solana network, given frequent doubts about its ability to handle large transaction volume.
And in the days following the announcement, the daily volume transferred to Solana from other blockchains simply exploded by 335% in just 7 days. The majority of funds would come from Ethereum according to Galaxy Research.
Improvements planned to strengthen the robustness of the Solana network
To improve the robustness of Solana, technical modifications. These will be planned in the short term as part of update 1.18. They should make it possible to further reduce “scheduling jitter” problems.
These occur when the network is saturated. They may encourage users to deliberately overwhelm it with fake transactions in order to cause a contested state. Optimizing the management of these situations would help consolidate the solidity of the network.
More generally, this record distribution of Jupiter tokens represents an important symbolic step in Solana’s rebound after a very difficult 2022. It also constitutes a good indicator of the progress made by blockchain in terms of scaling up, despite persistent limitations.
With planned technical developments and renewed investor interest thanks to this major event, the future now looks brighter for Solana. But challenges remain before competing with dominant blockchains.
The 335% explosion in volume transferred to Solana following the Jupiter token distribution highlights the positive impact of large token distributions in attracting new users. Despite lingering doubts about its technical capabilities, this large-scale stress test appears to demonstrate the progress made by Solana, which remains a promising blockchain.
