A festival that assumes not to resemble a conference
The positioning is based on a formula that the festival claims: no actors, no consultants. On site, we meet founders, technical directors, investors and makers, not professionals on the panel. The program is calibrated for the meeting: SHAKA Awards ceremony and opening party on the first evening, surf and yoga session on the second day, then walk to the Biarritz lighthouse and brunch facing the ocean to close. The dealflow format as much as surfboard is not an empty slogan: it is the mechanics of establishing relationships.
This is not a first attempt either. Born in 2022 under the name NFT Biarritz, the event was renamed SHAKA in 2024 to broaden its spectrum to AI and tech in the broad sense, and is celebrating its fifth edition. Behind the organization, we find the Dupont brothers: Damien, director of OpenGem, and Franck, CTO of nume.
The Startup Challenge and the profile of investors present
In Biarritz, the stage is not reserved for headliners. The SHAKA Startup Challenge gives selected start-ups a few minutes to convince, live, a room where investors are seated in the front row. However, SHAKA brings together precisely the type of contacts that a founder seeks to meet: Sylvain Theveniaud (Allianz Accelerator), Hervé Bloch (Le Fund), Francis Lelong (Alegria Groupe) or Rachel Delacour (Sweep), and on the institutional side the presence of BPI France.
On the plateau side, we also find Paul Midy, MP involved in tech issues, and Maider Arosteguy, mayor of Biarritz. A useful point of attention: the presence of a platform as a partner or exhibitor is part of the sponsorship of the event, not a recommendation, and certain services remain subject to restrictions depending on the jurisdiction.
Prices and discount code
The ticket office is progressing in stages, and the first has already fallen: the Early Bird at 120 EUR is sold out. The Regular price, at 190 EUR, is the one in force, before a final Last Wave level at 240 EUR. Each ticket covers all three days, including meals and drinks, as well as sports activities and evening events. Waiting is therefore mechanically more expensive.
