Romania launches national NFT platform

Romania is set to become a key player in the NFT market thanks to the launch of a national non-fungible token (NFT) exchange platform by the National Institute for Research and Development in Computer Science (ICI Bucharest). This initiative aims to create a bridge between the public and private sectors. It uses Web3 technology to drive innovation and adoption of NFTs in the country.

ICI D|Services, an NFT platform for institutions and individuals

ICI Bucharest has announced the launch of its institutional NFT exchange platform, called ICI D|Services. This platform aims to enable public and private institutions, as well as users, to create, manage and trade NFTs.

The rise of NFTs in recent years can be explained in particular by their ability to create unique and rare digital assets, applicable in many fields.

These characteristics make them valuable assets for institutions, hence the idea of creating an NFT platform within ICI Bucharest at the end of 2021.

Developed in partnership with MultiversX since mid-2022, this platform has been the first strategic project based on blockchain infrastructures.

This collaboration also includes the development of a decentralized domain name system (DNS) and a top-level domain (TLD) ecosystem.

Government support and unique NFT collections

The Romanian government, through the General Secretariat and the Ministry of Research, Innovation and Digitalization, actively supports this innovative project.

According to Paul Niculescu-Mizil Gheorghe, coordinator of the blockchain laboratory at ICI Bucharest, the institute wants “to create a bridge between the younger generations and the values of public institutions, by initiating a comfort zone for interactions with the digital space”.

The Romanian government’s support for innovative projects such as ICI D|Services is a guarantee of success. Indeed, it stimulates economic growth and generates new sources of income. Furthermore, the initiative encourages innovation and entrepreneurship in the country.

Beniamin Mincu, CEO of MultiversX, who spoke with Cointelegraphhighlights the Romanian government’s enthusiasm for adopting new technologies.

This initiative thus paves the way for new interactions between citizens, businesses and institutions.

This national NFT exchange platform, HERE D|Services, could well mark the beginning of a new era for Romania. It is already positioned as a leader in the adoption of Web3 and NFT. And who knows, maybe this Romanian digital turn will turn out to be a self-fulfilling prophecy, confirming the view that Web 3 is indeed the internet of the future? Only time, and a good internet network, will tell.
