The UN Security Council rejects the plan to admit Palestine to the organization. While Switzerland and the United Kingdom abstained, the USA, Israel's famous allies, vetoed the project. Despite the overwhelming support of the 12 members of the 15 Security Council, Palestine will remain a non-member permanent observer state. The question is: will Palestine try to join BRICS to take revenge on the US and help bring down its dollar? Analyzes.
China and Russia react against UN rejection of admission of Palestine
As chief apostles of BRICS dedollarization and permanent members of the UN Security Council, Russia and China appear to hold Palestine in high esteem. The two States have not hidden their regret regarding the UN rejection of Palestine's admission as a full member.
China says “the State of Palestine meets the criteria for admission” and that its admission is “urgent.” Putin's Russia thinks that the “heroic” people of Palestine are victims of historical injustice.
For the USA, however, Palestine's admission to the UN cannot be done without a prior comprehensive peace agreement between Palestine and Israel. In 1976, the USA had already used its veto against Vietnam's accession. This is the last time a state's application for admission was rejected by a veto.
Join the BRICS to take revenge on the USA and the dollar?
An observer member at the UN since 2012, Palestine is one of the countries having submitted a request to join the BRICS in 2023. It has not yet been admitted. However, at the end of its Pretoria summit in July 2023, the bloc published resolutions favorable to Palestine on the issue of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
What is certain is that joining powers like China, Russia and Brazil will help it progress commercially and economically. Furthermore, in the context of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, it would be a major geostrategic advance which would allow it to establish its political legitimacy.
For its part, the alliance with expansionist ambitions could well be interested in the large reserves of natural gas and oil contained in the Palestinian subsoil. The front of the rebels against the dollar could also include this country which, by suffering the veto of the USA, now has a real motive to fight the dollar. The next BRICS summit to be held in Russia next summer will certainly tell us more.
