Polymarket has still not launched its own crypto-asset. However, its founder, Shayne Coplan, raised this possibility again during a conference in Singapore. Without a date or concrete details, his comments are enough to revive the airdrop rumors, while the company is also studying an IPO.

In brief
- On October 7, Shayne Coplan mentioned an on-chain asset intended to support the economy of Polymarket, without specifying its characteristics.
- The platform has not announced any airdrops or token launches. Its valuation would exceed $20 billion according to press information.
- These speculations come as several crypto companies now favor the equity markets.
A token mentioned, but nothing concrete
On October 7, during TOKEN2049 in Singapore, Shayne Coplan spoke with investor Balaji Srinivasan about a possible on-chain asset. According to his remarks, this could play a role in the economy of Polymarket, rather than being used solely for exchanges on crypto platforms.
However, he gave no details on its operation, distribution or schedule.
This statement comes in a context favorable to speculation. The event brought together 25,000 participants and welcomed executives from Nasdaq, Franklin Templeton and Hyperliquid, according to the TOKEN2049 official website.
A few weeks earlier, an exchange on social networks had already relaunched discussions around a Polymarket token, in particular by comparing the platform’s revenues to the valuation of HYPE. Coplan then suggested that he would return to the subject.
IPO or token: Polymarket facing a strategic choice
Beyond the rumors, Polymarket must choose how to finance its growth. The platform has particularly attracted the attention of Intercontinental Exchange, which has committed to investing up to $2 billion. In the United States, it operates through QCX, designated a futures market by the American regulator in July 2025.
Two avenues are therefore emerging: a possible IPO or the launch of a native token. According to the press, discussions around the company’s valuation exceed $20 billion. However, Polymarket has not confirmed this amount nor its strategic choice.
At the same time, the platform is evolving its infrastructure. In particular, it is preparing an overhaul of its smart contracts with Protocol V2. This development could facilitate the integration of new features, but it in no way confirms the launch of a token.
Competition also increases the pressure. In the United States, Kalshi has an important position in the predictive markets. Polymarket must therefore consolidate its position while choosing the financing model best suited to its ambitions.
Airdrop Polymarket: why caution remains in order
The most surprising thing is that Coplan had also criticized the search for disproportionate gains in the crypto universe when he spoke on the quest for easy profit. However, the mere mention of a token is enough to revive hopes of free distribution.
For the moment, nothing confirms these expectations. Polymarket has not announced any airdrops, eligibility criteria, or token generation events.
Finally, the platform faces an action filed by the State of New York on September 24, 2026 regarding alleged unlicensed gambling activities. According to DefiLlama, its weekly volume is also around $1.22 billion, behind its American competitor.
While awaiting an official announcement, speculation therefore remains hypotheses. Users should be wary of fake sites and messages promising an airdrop, especially in the absence of confirmed criteria. To follow the next developments, find the news of predictive markets on Tremplin.io.
