Mercy Corps and Polygon’s plan for blockchain education in emerging markets
Polygon and Mercy Corps Ventures, the investment arm of the NGO Mercy Corps, have announced a partnership. The goal is to educate communities in emerging countries on blockchain technology.
The partnership aims to fund blockchain pilot programs with the aim of improving access to the financial system. It also plans to organize hackathons for young developers. That’s not all, the training sessions also target educational establishments as well as local NGOs.
Thus, as can be read in the communicated joint, Mercy Corps and Polygon want to reduce the gap between the promises of Web3 and reality, especially economic in emerging countries.
“The hype around blockchain and Web3 solutions for underbanked populations has yet to be matched by reality. Mercy Corps Ventures has actively piloted Web3 solutions to responsibly test, eliminate risk, and establish an evidence base for promising, cutting-edge innovations. These solutions leverage Web3 to explore emerging areas, building the resilience of underserved individuals and communities.”
Mercy Corps & Polygon Statement
Mercy Corps Ventures has further launched its Crypto for Good Fund II to promote financial inclusion and build climate resilience. The NGO also uses cryptocurrencies to provide aid to populations in times of crisis.
Ripple and Binance Donate Cryptocurrencies to Syria Earthquake Victims
Mercy Corps’ blockchain initiative is not limited to training in blockchain technology. The organization is very committed in the field to providing financial aid to populations in need, particularly refugees.
Already very present in the refugee camps in Kenya, the NGO has turned to Syria and Turkey. The recent earthquake that hit both countries claimed many lives.
The Syrian victims particularly had difficulty in benefiting from the donations. In fact, the country’s security and political situation did not make the task of humanitarian organizations any easier.
Mercy Corps took the opportunity to prove that cryptocurrencies can be a faster way to get aid to people in need.
The NGO has benefited from the support of the Binance platform and Ripple in this process. The two crypto companies contributed $60,000 and $1,000,000 respectively.
So, as it was the case for Ukrainedifficult times have the particularity of proving, each time, the usefulness of cryptocurrencies, far from critical TV sets.
