The hour of the update also rang at Polygon. Instead of standing idly by in the face of cybercriminals, Mihailo Bjelic wants to resort to state-of-the-art technology to thwart their plans. It is called “zkEVM validium”.
Another update at Polygon
Deployed on Ethereum on March 30, the Polygon zkEVM Layer 2 is supposed to improve host blockchain security. But for Mihailo Bjelic, another upgrade remains to be done.
Cointelegraph clarified that the co-founder of Polygon is relying on another solution to optimize this security. It’s about a migration of the Proof-of-Stake (PoS) mechanism to the “zkEVM validium”. From there will emerge the impassable “zero-knowledge proof”.
According to this tweet, Polygon POS is facing 3 major challenges right now:
- low level of security;
- requiring a “suboptimal amount of work” to maintain the codebase (knowing that Polygon PoS is too dependent on Cosmos SDK and geth);
- reorganization problems and gas spikes in the past.
Hence the need for the “zkEVM validium” based on ZEEVM. As the latter relies on the set of existing validators as data availability layerand also uses Ethereum L1 for its ZK/Validity proofs, security will be there.
” Validiums are more scalable than rollups, and they also offer transactions at a much lower cost “, specifies the crypto trader Hitesh Malviya.
What about the benefits?
One of the advantages of this upgrade is the securing large transactions for Polygon zKEVM. Regarding the Polygon PoS, fans of games and social networks will simply find their account.
In his June 20 post, Bjelic pointed out that:
” Enhanced Polygon PoS (zkEVM validium) would offer very high scalability and very low fees, with the trade-off of storing transaction data locally instead of storing it on Ethereum. It would be ideal for applications that have a high transaction volume and require low transaction fees, such as Web3 games and social applications. »
Otherwise, Hitesh Malviya’s tweet has a zkEVM validium benefits mini list.

” Advantages of Polygon ZkEVM Validium
– Elimination of channel changes
– Faster confirmation of transactions
– Increased scalability
– Better estimation of frias
– Greater decentralization
– Comparability with Polygon 2.0
If approved, this upgrade could go live by March 2024 on the mainnet.
Polygon ZkEVM and Polygon ZkEVM Validium will operate as separate chains.
The MATIC would remain the staking token. »
As a reminder, Polygon has already announced the advent of Polygon 2.0. This metamorphosis gives users mouth water.
