After months of conclusive teststhat is to say free of major bugs, Binance has decided to put online opBNB. opBNB is none other than its layer 2 based on OP Stack which stands out for its compatibility with Ethereum Virtual Machine. According to official communication from Binance, it should revolutionize BNB Smart Chain blockchain technology by reducing gas costs and speeding up transactions. Zoom !
In short
- Binance has just launched the opBNB mainnet
- This layer 2 blockchain from BNB Smart Chain is compatible with EVM
- More than 150 projects will be able to integrate this scalability solution based on Optimism Op Stack
opBNB, layer 2 of Binance finally activated
For Binance, regulatory challenges, materialized by a lawsuit against the US SEC, should in no way hinder innovations. If its lawyers focused on developing effective strategies against the American regulator, the rest of the team focused on the development of the crypto giant.
The putting online of opBNB, BSC’s layer 2 blockchain, is therefore not a surprise for the crypto community after the few months of preparation revealed by Binance.
“ Today we are launching the opBNB mainnet!
Our layer 2 solution is now fully open to the publicenabling lightning-fast transactions and super low fees!
Let’s dive deeper into the incredible benefits this brings to BSC. »
Through this Twitter thread, Binance formalized the launch of the opBNB mainnet long awaited by investors and players in the cryptosphere.
Here is an extract from the official communication from BNB Chain:
“ We are excited to announce an important milestone for the BNB Chain ecosystem: the public launch of the opBNB mainnet on September 13, 2023!
opBNB is the L2 of BNB Smart Chain. It is compatible with the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) and built on the Optimism OP stack. It is designed to revolutionize technology by dramatically reducing gas fees, making blockchain accessible to everyone – a central part of BNB Chain’s mission. »
What about the impacts of such an announcement on the price of BNB? Very little indeed, since Binance’s native token only rose 0.1% during the last 24 hours. At the time of writing, BNB was trading at $212.72.
Requests from the crypto community to integrate opBNB
To bring project builders and developers to opBNB, Binance has set up several forms of incentives :
- Builder Grants, Gas Grants and others monetary motivations ;
- the Kickstart liquidity and marketing assistance program;
- a tutorial coupled with detailed documentation on integration;
- etc.
On the performance side, Binance has promised the democratization of the blockchain with a layer 2 capable of competing with 50 similar existing infrastructures.
“ opBNB value proposition:
– Super cheap gas fees (as low as 0.2 gwei).
– Approach without confidence and without sequencing hypotheses.
All opBNB transaction data is verified by full nodes.
– Multisig wallet for smart contract updates. »
In its Twitter thread, Binance also mentioned the results of opBNB during the testnet. During this test phase, there were notably: approximately 35 million on-chain transactions435,972 connections to unique crypto wallets, more than 150 dApps deployed, etc.
The testnet also made it possible to identify the following points:
- fast block time rated at 1 second;
- treatment of more than 86,000 blocks per day ;
- 100 to 150,000 daily transactions managed;
- and more than 6,000 active users in 24 hours.
Reached by CoinDesk, Arno Bauer, lead architect of BNB Chain, offered this comment:
“ Scalability and security are top priorities for opBN. Before opening the mainnet to the public, strict criteria had to be respected. This included high availability (HA), 4K transactions per second (TPS), rigorous stress testing, gas costs reduced to less than 0.2 gwei, fast finality to less than 1 second, and strong security with multiple external audits “.
