Stamps have been collectibles for centuries. Today, they are about to enter a new era thanks to NFTs. La Poste, the French postal operator, will soon launch its first NFT stamp called NFTimbre.
NFTimbre, a first stamp in the form of NFT
Created by the artist Faunesque, the NFTimbre represents the evolution of correspondence since the beginnings of mail. It will be sold at a price of 8 euros and will be available in two forms: physical and digital. According to a tweet from Nomadic Labs, the release of the first stamp is scheduled for September 18.
The NFTimbre will be minted on Tezos and there will be only 100,000 copies. Indeed, thanks to its project, La Poste wishes to open up to Web3, the ecosystem of decentralized applications based on the blockchain. In this universe, NFTs are used to create unique and traceable digital collectibles.
In addition, the company had already experimented with NFTs last year. To this end, she had launched a collection of photos of postmen and postwomen in partnership with Yann Arthus-Bertrand.
The stakes of the release of this collection
If the NFTimbre are successful, La Poste could extend this initiative to other collections. This would allow the postal operator to generate new revenue and strengthen its image among collectors.
Furthermore, the exit of La Poste’s first NFT stamp raises several issues. On the one hand, it is a question of whether collectors will be ready to invest in these new collectibles. Additionally, non-fungible tokens are still a relatively new market and their value is volatile. It is therefore possible that these digital stamps do not enjoy the same success as other types of NFT.
The market for non-fungible tokens still attracts investors despite the ups and downs. As a result, it is possible that the release of La Poste’s NFTimbre marks the beginning of a new trend in philately. Indeed, NFTs could make it possible to create more innovative and attractive collectibles for collectors.
