In 2024, the savings accounts regulated in France, the Livret A and the Livret de Développement Durable et Solidaire (LDDS), brought in a record amount of 16.8 billion euros in interest to savers. This impressive sum was announced by Caisse des Dépôts, highlighting the continued appeal of these savings products despite an uncertain economic context.

France: The Livret A and the LDDS bring in 16.8 billion euros to savers!
The Livret A and the LDDS benefited from an interest rate of 3% throughout 2024, which contributed to this exceptional performance. In addition, net collection for the month of December 2024 was particularly strong, reaching 3.93 billion euros, the highest of the year. The total outstanding amount of the two savings accounts also reached a record level, exceeding 600 billion euros as of December 31, 2024.
This increase in outstanding amounts, combined with a high interest rate, allowed savers to benefit from significant returns, reaching 16.8 billion euros. On average, each booklet brought in around 210 euros to its holders, which represents a significant sum for the approximately 80 million booklets opened.
This trend shows that the French continue to see the Livret A and the LDDS as reliable and advantageous savings options. Olivier Sichel, interim general manager of Caisse des Dépôts, stressed that the Livret A remains a very attractive product for the French because of its tax exemption, the capital guarantee and its liquidity.
A drop planned for February 2025
However, it is expected that the interest rate of the two booklets decrease to 2.4% from February 1, 2025. This reduction could influence future returns, but the appeal of these savings products should remain strong, especially if the outstanding balance continues to grow.
The year 2024 was therefore marked by exceptional performances for the Livret A and the LDDS, offering French savers record returns. The expected drop in the interest rate in 2025 will be a factor to monitor, but the popularity of these savings accounts seems well anchored in savings habits in France.
