Goldman Sachs, Citigroup and UBS open up to cryptos via BlackRock's Bitcoin ETF

Authorized participants (APs) have a dual function. Appointed by an ETF issuer, these APs, financial entities, buy back shares of the ETF on the primary market. They thus ensure the liquidity of the ETF by facilitating the creation and redemption of units according to investor demand. BlackRock's option is clear from this point of view regarding its Bitcoin Spot ETF.

A choice linked to the enthusiasm of institutions for crypto

BlackRock, the world's largest asset manager, has taken a big step forward in the crypto investing space. It announced the expansion of its Authorized Participants (AP) list for its iShares Bitcoin Trust ETF (IBIT).

Amid growing interest in spot Bitcoin ETFs, BlackRock has hosted renowned financial institutions. This is the case for Goldman Sachs, Citigroup, UBS Securities, Citadel and ABN AMRO Clearing.

These financial behemoths join existing authorized participants namely JP Morgan, Jane Street Capital, Virtu Americas and Macquarie. This, in a context of growing acceptance of bitcoin in traditional financial circles.

Basically, the addition of renowned entities such as Goldman Sachs and Citigroup to this list signals a notable change in the financial ecosystem. The latter being marked by the recognition and sustained adoption of cryptos by key financial players.

Strengthening the accessibility of the iShares Bitcoin Trust

Certainly, the expansion of BlackRock's AP list highlights the tendency of traditional financial institutions to adapt to advances in crypto investing. This by meeting the needs and preferences of investors. But there is something else.

By expanding its network of APs, BlackRock is in fact pursuing a specific objective. That of improving the accessibility of its spot bitcoin ETF, the iShares Bitcoin Trust. The company aims to offer investors more ways to invest in crypto.

Ultimately, the involvement of established financial institutions like BlackRock marks an important step toward widespread acceptance and integration of digital assets into traditional investment portfolios.

For Eric Balchunas, analyst and specialist in ETF issues, the participation of these leading companies underlines an important development in the financial sector. According to him, there is clearly a desire on the part of these companies to publicly engage in bitcoin spot ETFs.
