As Gary Gensler steps down as SEC chairman and Donald Trump takes office, the crypto industry is rushing to file an avalanche of filings, particularly for crypto ETFs. From January 20, a new regulatory era begins, fueling speculation on altcoins and future ETFs. But behind this eagerness, complex issues emerge.

Solana, XRP and others: the onslaught of crypto ETFs
On January 17, a veritable deluge of crypto ETF proposals hit the SEC, led by major players like ProShares and CoinShares. ProShares has notably submitted a request for a Solana Futures ETF, a product allowing investors to be exposed to movements in the SOL price via futures contracts rather than directly purchasing the asset.
However, as crypto analyst James Seyffart pointed out:
“ Not sure if Coinbase futures on SOL are large or liquid enough. »
Fromother candidatessuch as Volatility Shares, CoinShares and Bitwise, have also revealed their ambitious plans, including ETFs linked to XRP or innovative strategies like Tidal DeFi's digital asset debt fund.
Some key figures :
- ProShares, Bitcoin ETF Pioneer, Now Targets Solana;
- WisdomTree and 21Shares target XRP ETF spot;
- VanEck’s “Onchain Economy” ETF covers an entire crypto ecosystem.
With such a waveit is clear that the post-Gensler SEC will have to navigate a minefield between innovation and regulation.
Crypto regulation: Gensler exits, pressure mounts
Gary Gensler, known for his decided decisions against Coinbase and Binanceis preparing to leave his post after shaking up the crypto industry. Under his leadership, spectacular actions were carried out, as the Nova Labs lawsuitdeveloper of Helium, for illegal securities offerings.
However, some, like Leo Schwartzbelieve that his intervention has arrived “ years too late and billions too short “.
However, the future looks uncertain. As Nate Geraci points out:
“ ETFs are the bridge between traditional finance and DeFi. »
If this promises complete tokenization of assets in the long term, integration remains chaotic. Between past frauds and skepticism towards certain assets, investors must be extra vigilant.
However, post-Gensler does not mean automatic validation for all pending crypto ETFs. As James Seyffart points out, the road to a Solana ETF is fraught with challenges, particularly given ongoing regulatory issues. Caution therefore remains in order.
