Deadline for taxes in France: here is the day not to be exceeded in your city

The countdown is launched for the 28 million French taxpayers. With deadlines staggered according to your place of residence, the 2025 income tax declaration campaign has been in full swing since April 10. But beware, the deadlines are dangerously approaching – some have only one handful of days to avoid penalties.

A man of around 40 years old, in a crumpled shirt, loose tie, frowning, holding a calendar whose date is surrounded in bright red. Une a large wall clock behind him, with the needles almost at midnight. Files stacked, computer with a tax form in France.

In short

  • The opening of the declaration campaign took place on April 10, 2025.
  • Three geographic areas with different limits between May 22 and June 5.
  • An increase of 10 to 40% in the event of delay in declaration.
  • An online search engine allows you to check its deadline according to your municipality.

A staggered calendar which affects 18 million taxpayers in France

The French taxman opted for a three -speed system, distributing the 101 departments according to progressive deadlines. This organization makes it possible to avoid the engorgement of servers while giving more time to taxpayers of the distant regions.

The first zone, including departments 01 to 19, must complete its online statements before Thursday May 22 at 11:59 p.m. Paris, Lyon and Marseille are concerned, representing nearly a third of the national declarations. It is the tightest deadline, leaving little margin to the procrastinators of the capital and the large metropolises.

Departments 20 to 54 benefit from an additional period until Wednesday, May 28. This intermediate zone notably covers Bordeaux, Nancy and a large part of the center of France. A welcome respite that offers almost a week more compared to the first area.

The third zone, bringing together departments 55 to 976 (including overseas), has the most generous period with a deadline set for Thursday, June 5. The inhabitants of the East and the overseas territories can blow – they have two more weeks than their Parisian compatriots.

Paper declaration, watch out for shorter deadlines

Unlike the online system, the paper declaration follows a simple, but unforgiving rule: a unique date for all of France. Tuesday, May 20 at 11:59 p.m. on TODOL DEADLINE to post your form, regardless of your residence department.

This temporal disparity s'explain by the logistical constraints of postal treatment. Nearly 10 million French people still opt for this traditional method, despite the tax infections to go digital. Postal deadlines being what they are, it is better to do it in advance to avoid unpleasant surprises.

Delay penalties are particularly salty: an increase of 10% applies automatically, which can increase up to 40% in the event of prolonged negligence.

Note that this year, cryptos holders should be particularly vigilant. The new regulations require a detailed declaration via the forms 3916-Bis and 2086, with dates identical to those of traditional income.

A forgetfulness in this area exposes to additional fines of up to 1,500 euros per unsuccessful account.

The tax administration remains inflexible on deadlines, even in the event of technical difficulties on D -Day. It is therefore better to anticipate and finalize its declaration a few days before the deadline to avoid any unpleasant surprises.
