Davos 2024: Common front in the face of the economic and geopolitical storm!

The World Economic Forum in Davos is in full swing for this 54th edition. Bringing together major political, economic and intellectual leaders from around the world, this annual summit aims to discuss current global challenges and find common solutions.

First day: geopolitical risks at the heart of the debates

The 54th World Economic Forum (WEF) opened its doors this Monday, January 15 in the Swiss ski resort of Davos. This year, the gathering is being held under the theme “Cooperation in a fragmented world”.

During this first day, discussions focused on the urgent geopolitical challenges facing the world. The war in Ukraine, the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and regional tensions in the Middle East focused the attention of the participants.

Volodymyr Zelensky, present in Davos for the first time, will speak on the second day to remobilize the support of the international community for his country, almost two years after the Russian invasion.

China is also making its comeback in Davos with the presence of its Prime Minister Li Qiang. His speech will be closely followed, particularly after the recent election in Taiwan of pro-independence President Lai Ching-te.

Towards common solutions to crises

Despite geopolitical tensions, Davos 2024 aims to be turned towards the future. Artificial intelligence and its concrete applications are at the heart of the debates, with the participation of the technological giants OpenAI (ChatGPT) and Microsoft.

Furthermore, climate and energy transition are among the crucial subjects discussed during dedicated panels. Nearly 2,800 political and economic decision-makers are expected this week. Not to mention the presence of more than 60 heads of state and government, like French President Emmanuel Macron.

Despite growing geopolitical risks, participants will try to find common ground and concrete solutions. The theme of cooperation in a fragmented world has never been more relevant.

A Forum at a time of multiple crises

This 54th edition of the WEF comes at a pivotal time, as economic, social and environmental crises accumulate on a global scale. War, inflation, recession, food insecurity, climate change: the reasons for concern are legion.

Nevertheless, the Forum remains a valuable opportunity for dialogue and international cooperation. The discussions over the coming days will perhaps make it possible to lay the foundations for joint actions to meet these intertwined challenges.
