Dakar Bitcoin Days Forum: Senegal's first crypto event

The Dakar Bitcoin Days forum, scheduled for December 2 and 3 in the Senegalese capital, is approaching. Tremplin.io is a partner. At the same time, the hackathon which will take place on the same dates is also the subject of diligent preparations by the organizing team..

The observation made by Mouhamadou Kouta, the initiator of the Dakar Bitcoin Days forum, is as follows: more and more capital is entering projects related to bitcoin (BTC), with more and more demand throughout the ecosystem. However, there is little impact in Africa, where there are many consultants and influencers, but few specialized bitcoin developers.
This is why the idea of organizing a hackathon on the margins of the forum quickly imposed itself. With 4 planned themes (financial inclusion, access to financing, securing funds, money transfers), the objective is to contribute to the emergence of a pool of bitcoin developers in Senegal.

A preparatory training session for the hackathon

But for the initiative to be really effective, it must not be forgotten that the vast majority of the planned participants know very little about the Bitcoin environment. Never mind, the organization has planned pre-hackathon training offered to registered participants. To do this, English and French-speaking trainers have volunteered to provide almost daily work sessions with the registrants. There were 133, the majority from Senegalese computer science students. But there are also a few engineers already working in large Senegalese companies.

The topics covered during this training cover the essentials of the Bitcoin ecosystem: Bitcoin Core, Bitcoin Dev Kit, BTCPay Server, Electrum server, Fulcrum server, Ledger Developer Portal, Lightning Core, C-Lightning, Lightning Dev Kit, mempool.space , Samurai Wallet, Sparrow Wallet.

This learning session will end on November 18, then the final participants will be selected. The latter will then benefit from a bootcamp on November 28, where several trainers will pitch them on entrepreneurship and other topics to prepare them for the hackathon. It will begin on Friday, December 2 at noon and end 24 hours later, at Espace Numérique Ouvert, in the Mermoz district of Dakar.

The projects carried out in this way will be followed up in an incubation program with the hope of creating innovative start-ups in the sector. As for the winners, they will receive numerous prizes in bitcoins and in the form of Ledger keys and support in incubation programs. Several institutional partners have already confirmed their interest. The organizers are open to other partnerships for the follow-up of incubates.
