The hype surrounding Solana memcoins has calmed down considerably in recent weeks. Indeed, after an unprecedented craze which saw tens of millions of dollars flow into these purely speculative tokens, many crypto projects were simply abandoned by their creators.
A crypto fundraising frenzy!
At the heart of this new speculative wave is the “presale” method, which has allowed dozens of Solana memecoins to raise millions in just a few days. According to figures revealed by ZachXBT, no fewer than 12 crypto projects raised a total of $26.7 million through this method before being abandoned less than a month later.
Among the most prominent examples are “I Like This Coin” and its LIKE token. Its founder, pokeee.eth, achieved the feat of raising the equivalent of $7.7 million in SOL crypto during the presale. However, since its launch on March 17, the value of memecoin has collapsed by over 90%! Worse still, the project seems to have been completely abandoned by its creators who have not communicated since the end of March.
A speculative drift that looks like a bubble
If these pump-and-dump phenomena are not new in the crypto universe, the extent of the frenzy around Solana memecoins nevertheless raises questions. By attracting millions of investors with tempting but empty promises, these dubious projects are indeed reminiscent of the ICO (Initial Coin Offerings) madness of 2017.
At the time, hundreds of companies had managed to raise astronomical sums of money before disappearing into thin air after failing to develop a viable product. Despite recurring calls for caution from informed experts, the lure of profit seems to have once again blinded many crypto investors.
In the end, the tide seems to be turning for Solana memecoins after a few weeks of irrational euphoria. The sudden abandonment of many projects, despite the millions raked in, is a stark reminder of the dangers inherent in crypto assets. If this turbulent period allowed a few informed investors to make substantial profits, it also widened the chasm of losses for a majority of participants.
