Crypto transactions via Visa or Mastercard allowed by Binance in Russia?
Several users have revealed information regarding the activities of the Binance exchange in Russia. According to them, the platform has again operationalized crypto transactions by credit card in the country.
This new comes more than a year after the company decided to suspend some of its crypto operations. This, in accordance with the sanctions decided by the European Union in response to the war in Ukraine.
As a reminder, these measures primarily concerned the international banking service (SWIFT), access to which had been interrupted for Russia. Subsequently, the sanctions were extended to the crypto sector with similar progressive effects.
These various decisions prevented Russian Binance users from carrying out crypto transactions on its platform via bank cards. It looks like the situation is changing now. Many users have confirmed that they have regained access to Mastercard and Visa services. Which, in fact, would allow them to make deposits on the platform.
Can we say with certainty that Binance has completely lifted the EU sanctions it has applied against Russia so far? We are tempted to think so. Especially since recent information concerning the suspension of the blockade on crypto transactions above 10,000 euros has recently leaked.
Only problem: Binance has not yet officially confirmed either of these two pieces of information. “All current sanctions-related restrictions against Russian nationals are enforced by the platform and its legal entities in the European Union in full,” said a company official, contacted.
Note that in October, sources revealed that several exchanges including Binance did not respect the sanctions against Russia.
