VanEck's Solana ETF has just entered the scene, and it's not just another product on the altcoin shelf. We are witnessing a real surge of crypto funds on the stock market, with Solana and soon Dogecoin at the forefront. Between low fees, integrated staking and a regulatory race against time, a new battle is being played out far from traditional exchange platforms.

In brief
- VanEck is launching a Solana ETF (VSOL) with integrated staking and temporarily waived fees, as Fidelity and other players intensify competition on Solana.
- Grayscale is preparing to convert its Dogecoin Trust into the first DOGE spot ETF in the United States, while other, more complex structures already exist via offshore subsidiaries.
- These altcoin ETFs are shifting flows to Wall Street and forcing close scrutiny of fees, liquidity, staking and regulation.
VanEck unveils its Solana ETF: fees cut and staking included
VanEck launched its Solana ETF, VSOL, in a market already occupied by Bitwise and Grayscale. But the house understood one simple thing: to attract capital, you have to be aggressive. As a result, VanEck's Solana ETF relies on two major levers. It offers Solana staking returns, since a portion of the SOL is locked on the blockchain to generate rewards. In addition, the 0.3% fee is simply waived temporarily, until February 17 or until the symbolic milestone of one billion dollars in assets.
With integrated staking, the traditional investor, who does not want seed phrase nor wallet, finally captures part of the yield on-chain without leaving your broker account. We are witnessing a form of “Wall Street-packed DeFi”. This packaging simplifies the lives of managers and individuals alike. No need to understand the technical details of Solana to benefit from it.
As a backdrop, the SEC relaxed the listing standards for crypto ETFs in September. Less friction, less delays, therefore more products. Asset managers are rushing into the breach. Especially since Solana, now established as one of Ethereum's main competitors, is becoming a strategic asset for those betting on the economy of high-performance blockchains. The Solana ETF then becomes a regulated entry point into this ecosystem.
Fidelity arrives on Solana, while Dogecoin ETFs prepare
The arrival of the Fidelity Solana ETF (FSOL) adds an additional layer of competition. Fidelity never comes around to play dumb. With several Solana ETFs already in place, including that of VanEck, the war is now on fees, liquidity and the ability to attract institutional investors. BlackRock, for the moment, remains behind on Solana. This silence speaks for itself: the ground is clear for other giants who want to establish themselves as leaders of listed altcoins.
At the same time, another issue is causing a lot of talk: Dogecoin. Grayscale is preparing the conversion of its Grayscale Dogecoin Trust into a spot ETF, listed on the NYSE. If the SEC does not object within the anticipated regulatory window, the market will see the birth of the first Dogecoin ETF spot in the United States. Unlike some more complex products, this one will have the capacity to directly hold the underlying memecoin.
We must also mention the initiatives already in place, such as the product launched by REX Shares and Osprey Funds, structured under the Investment Company Act of 1940. This framework requires it to go through an offshore subsidiary to hold DOGE. It is a heavier, less direct architecture, which clearly illustrates the transition in progress: from legal tinkering towards simpler spot ETFs, more readable for investors.
What these ETFs really change for the crypto market
You might think these are just new tickers to follow. In reality, these Solana ETFs and future Dogecoin ETFs are redrawing flows. Instead of buying SOL or DOGE on an exchange, part of the capital will go through traditional equity markets. Securities accounts, investment plans, structured products: a whole universe will be able to be added to these ETFs.
After Bitcoin and Ethereum, the door is now open to major altcoins. Solana occupies the segment of efficient infrastructure and is competing with XRP for the next key step in the ranking, in a crypto market in full restructuring. Dogecoin embodies the narrative of a “meme” that has become serious by the strength of its capitalization. Behind, other projects watch, hoping to be next on the list.
