Crypto: Altcoins accelerate while Bitcoin remains stuck
Summarize this article with:

The crypto market is moving forward without a clear direction, but money does not sleep. While bitcoin remains stuck between $76,100 and $78,000, several altcoins are capturing traders' attention. This sector rotation mainly benefits tokens linked to AI and HYPE, while the big cryptos still lack momentum.

In brief

  • Bitcoin remains stuck in a tight range.
  • AI and HYPE altcoins capture speculative flows.
  • The crypto market is breathing, but caution still prevails.

Bitcoin stalls, traders look for movement

Bitcoin is going through a waiting phase. For four days, its price has remained locked in a narrow zone, without any real bullish breakout or marked fall. This pause confirms a market still dominated by BTC, as already shown by the increase in bitcoin dominance beyond 61%. For such a closely monitored asset, this calm almost becomes information in itself.

This lack of volatility pushes part of the market towards more nervous assets. Traders are not necessarily leaving crypto. They simply change the playing field. When bitcoin slows down, the most speculative capital looks elsewhere for better acceleration. Ethereum doesn't do much better. Market data also shows little excitement over ETH open interest. The BTC-ETH duo therefore sets the general tempo: stable, cautious, almost immobile.

The rotation was mainly seen in tokens linked to artificial intelligence. NEAR jumped 28.5% in 24 hours, while FET rose 11.4%. It's not just an isolated rebound. This is a sign that strong narratives quickly regain value when market leaders run out of steam.

The movement is also selective. Privacy coins like DASH, ZEC and XMR suffered profit taking after their rise at the start of the week. This confirms one thing: the market is not going up as a whole. It turns in pockets, sometimes brutally.

NEAR even displays more solid dynamics on derivatives. Aggressive market buying and still moderate financing rates suggest a sustained, but not yet completely euphoric, rise.

HYPE becomes the symbol of this rotation before the weekend

HYPE stands out as one of the big winners of the week. HyperLiquid's native token hit a record high after rising around 60% since Tuesday. This type of movement quickly attracts attention, especially in a market where bitcoin no longer gives much to comment on.

The rise in HYPE can be explained by an explosive mixture. There were strong liquidations of short positions. There is also increased institutional demand, following the launch of spot ETFs in the US this month. So it's not just a push from small traders.

This performance helped raise CoinMarketCap's “altcoin season” indicator from 31 to 38 out of 100. The score remains far from a real altcoin season. But it shows that the market is starting to look beyond bitcoin. Derivatives tell a more cautious story. The overall volume of crypto futures increased by just 1% over 24 hours, to $160 billion. Open interest remains stable around $128 billion, while liquidations fell 26% to $200 million.

On options, the implied volatility of bitcoin and Ethereum continues to fall. Traders are mostly selling volatility, with significant activity on bitcoin put options between $71,000 and $77,000 on Deribit. This reflects a defensive posture, not panic.

Caution therefore remains necessary. Altcoins can accelerate quickly, but they can also correct with the same violence. This context reminds us that the fragility of altcoins remains a central subject when liquidity is concentrated on only a few projects. For now, bitcoin keeps the key. If it breaks out of its range, the entire crypto dynamic can change.
