AI: Google launches Gemini to dethrone OpenAI's GPT-4

A few months ago, technology giant Google launched Google Bard, a chatbot positioned as a competitor to OpenAI’s ChatGPT. Still in its competitive logic, the company is returning to the charge. This time, with Gemini, an AI tool that aims to dethrone OpenAI’s GPT-4.

Google wants to dethrone OpenAI’s GPT-4 with Gemini

After the launch of Google Bard in March 2023, the digital juggernaut Google is once again making headlines. Its latest creation, Gemini, an artificial intelligence (AI) tool which positions itself as a formidable competitor to OpenAI’s GPT-4.

Sundar Pichai, CEO of Google, and Demis Hassabis, CEO of Google DeepMind, announced the launch of Gemini, Wednesday December 6. They presented this technology as a breakthrough in the field of artificial intelligence.

For good reason, it surpasses GPT-4, the current benchmark in the sector, in terms of intelligence and capacity. Unlike the latter, Gemini can seamlessly process and combine information from text, images, audio and video.

In terms of performance, Gemini Ultra demonstrated excellence in 30 of 32 academic benchmarks for large language models. He thus demonstrated his prowess in various linguistic tasks.

And its results seem extraordinary. Gemini scored 90% on a massive multitasking language comprehension (MMLU) test. A level that far exceeds the performance of human experts. According to Jeff Dean, Google’s chief scientist, Gemini is the first model to achieve performance equivalent to that of a human expert.

Google pushes the boundaries of AI

Gemini’s competitive advantage extends to its advanced programming skills. They enable it to generate high-quality code using Alpha Code 2, an advanced code generation system. In particular, the Gemini AI model can solve complex programming problems and collaborate effectively with developers.

Furthermore, Google has integrated Gemini seamlessly into its products, notably in the improved version of ChatGPT, Google Bard. Those wanting to experience Gemini’s capabilities can do so through the Pro version, also deployed in Google Bard.

Additionally, Gemini is implemented in Google’s flagship phone, the Pixel 8 Pro. The tool powers features there like Summarize in the Recorder app and Smart Reply in Gboard. In the coming months, the Gemini rollout will expand to other Google services such as Search, Ads and Chrome.

As a reminder, Gemini is not a unique model. It has been meticulously optimized for different applications, with Ultra, Pro and Nano versions. Each tailored to specific use cases. Unveiled earlier this year, Gemini demonstrates Google’s commitment to pushing the boundaries of AI. It certainly promises a level of intelligence and versatility that surpasses its predecessors and rivals in the evolving artificial intelligence landscape. This, while the exponential expansion of this technology worries more than one.
