The request “how to buy bitcoin” now exceeds “how to invest in AI” on Google Trends. This result signals a more direct intention around BTC, but it does not measure the actual number of buyers or the capital invested.

In brief
- “How to buy bitcoin” now surpasses “how to invest in AI” on Google Trends.
- Interest in purchasing BTC is on the rise again after a decline observed since February.
- Google Trends measures the relative popularity of searches, not the actual number of buyers.
- Investing in AI remains more fragmented between stocks, ETFs, semiconductors and specialist companies.
- This data is not enough to prove that investors actually favor bitcoin over AI.
Buy bitcoin dominates a very specific query
Searches for buying bitcoin began to increase in June 2025. They peaked in February 2026, before falling alongside the price of BTC. Since March, Google Trends has shown a gradual resumption of this interest.
The research “how to invest in AI” followed a different trajectory. It peaked around December 2025, then lost ground. The query devoted to bitcoin now benefits from a higher index in the comparison presented.
Several nuances allow us to better understand this result:
- “How to buy bitcoin” ahead “how to invest in AI” ;
- The general term “AI” remains much more sought after than “bitcoin” ;
- Requests “bitcoin”And “bitcoin price”maintain strong popularity;
- Investing in AI is still ahead of purchasing Ether, SOL, XRP or ZEC;
- The renewed research on BTC comes after its recent rebound.
Ki Young Ju, founder of CryptoQuant, had summary the gap between the market and the public’s attention by this formula:
The bitcoin bull run has just started, but no one cares.
Google Trends does not measure actual purchases
Google Trends does not provide an absolute number of searches. The tool uses an anonymized sample of queries, then normalizes the results according to the selected time period and geographic area.
Each data is divided by the total volume of searches observed in the region concerned. Google then transforms the result into an index between 0 and 100. A value twice as high therefore does not necessarily mean that twice as many people have carried out the search.
The company also specifies that Google Trends “is not a scientific survey”. An increase only shows that a term represents a greater share of searches during a given period. It reveals neither the motivations of Internet users nor their financial decisions.
Some users may search for how to buy bitcoin without taking action. Others can already invest without using Google. Searches made on artificial intelligence assistants, social networks or other engines do not appear in these statistics either.
Buying bitcoin remains a more identifiable approach
The comparison also opposes two different intentions. Bitcoin is a specific asset. An Internet user can buy it on a centralized platform, from a broker, on a peer-to-peer market or indirectly through an ETF.
On the contrary, artificial intelligence covers a very broad sector. Investing in AI could mean buying stock in Nvidia, Microsoft or Alphabet. The term can also refer to semiconductors, data centers, electricity producers, specialized ETFs or private companies like OpenAI and Anthropic.
This fragmentation can reduce the use of the exact query “how to invest in AI” . An investor interested in this sector will sometimes look directly “Nvidia stock”, “Artificial intelligence ETF”or the name of a company.
The Google Trends result therefore does not prove that bitcoin attracts more capital than the entire AI industry. Above all, it shows that the BTC purchasing process is focused around a simple and easily identifiable expression.
Interest in bitcoin still follows its price
The search curve for buying bitcoin seems to evolve with the market. Interest peaked in February, before receding during BTC’s decline. It then recovered with the price returning to its highest levels since January.
This link does not imply that the searches are causing the increase. The price increase, media coverage and social media posts can attract new users. In the other direction, more frequent research may precede the opening of accounts or first transactions.
Bitcoin remained down around 4% since the start of 2026 at the time of analysis, despite rising close to 38% over the quarter. Several investments associated with AI simultaneously showed very different positive performances depending on the company.
To confirm a lasting return of individuals, it will therefore be necessary to observe purchase volumes, flows towards ETFs and platform activity. Google Trends provides a useful indicator of attention, but insufficient to conclude that investors are actually choosing bitcoin over AI.
