Crypto: Dogecoin gains 21.4% in August, its best performance of 2026
Summarize this article with:

In August, Dogecoin temporarily gained 21.4%, its best monthly performance since January 2026. During the second half of this month, DOGE enjoyed a strong rise to reach $0.10. However, the crypto lost some of its gains. This rebound does not, however, put an end to its annual downward trend. The crypto is still suffering a decline of almost 27% since January and remains well below its 2025 peak.

The crypto Dogecoin is personified as a muscular sprinter, with a large DOGE coin embedded in his torso. He violently crosses a mechanical barrier showing 21.4%. The character occupies approximately two thirds of the image, body projected forward, expression euphoric and determined.

In brief

  • Dogecoin temporarily gained 21.4% in August, its best monthly performance since January.
  • DOGE surged almost 44%, from around $0.069 to $0.0996.
  • The price failed to sustainably cross the $0.10 threshold, before returning to around $0.086.
  • Despite this rebound, Dogecoin remains down approximately 27% since January.
  • A positive close in August would end three consecutive months of decline.

DOGE rises 21.4% in August

The crypto market is no longer in extreme fear. Thus, according to the CryptoRank dataDOGE’s monthly return was around 21.4% on August 29. This increase exceeds that of April, which was close to 15.6%.

Most of this performance was achieved during the second half of the month. Thus, the monthly return of Dogecoin was still only 0.9% on August 17. Then, its price moved quickly from near $0.069 on August 19 to around $0.10 a few days later.

THE following numbersants allow us to find out more about this rebound:

  • DOGE temporarily gained 21.4% in August;
  • Its price reached a monthly high near $0.0996;
  • It then returned to around $0.086;
  • Its annual performance remains negative at around 27%.

The result observed in August is not yet definitive. However, the statistics from the on-chain analysis were published before the August 31 close. A significant fluctuation during the last sessions can therefore change the final return.

The data also differs depending on the time and calculation method. Indeed, the CryptoRank dashboard reveals, on August 30, an increase of 23.9% over the last thirty days. This sliding measure does not truly equate to the yield determined between the first and last day of the month.

Crypto rise collided with $0.10 threshold

DOGE had a gain of almost 44% from its level near $0.069 to its peak at $0.0996. However, sellers prevented the price from rebounding sustainably beyond the psychological threshold of $0.10.

Dogecoin has also undergone a correction of almost 14% since this peak. This decline reveals that some investors withdrew their profits after the market rose.

The market explosion coincided with an overall recovery in altcoins as well as a renewed interest in all Dogecoin-related investment products. However, it should be emphasized that no event specific to the protocol alone can justify this entire movement. This development seems mainly to come from a rotation of the market towards more speculative cryptos.

In this perspective, activity on derivatives also slowed after the summit. The open interest of perpetual contracts is currently at nearly 15.7 billion DOGE, up from 16.85 billion on August 17, according to information disclosed by FXStreet. This correction of almost 7% indicates that part of the speculative positions have been closed.

The best month of the year does not erase the losses

Dogecoin fell 5.9% last May, 28.3% in June and 3.4% in July. A positive close in August could therefore put an end to three consecutive months of decline.

Despite everything, the crypto remains far from its annual peak of $0.1551. From a price close to $0.086, it would still gain nearly 80% to return to this level.

The close of this month and the behavior of Dogecoin around $0.10 will allow us to decide on the solidity of this recovery. A constant crossing of this threshold would certify an improvement in the movement, while a new rejection could maintain the risk of a decline towards the levels observed before this increase in August.
