The figures fall, dry and relentless. In one month, the activity of developers in Ethereum, however pillar of the crypto ecosystem, dropped by 11.8 %. A decline that is not isolated: BNB Chain, Polygon, Arbitrum … All see their metrics crumble. Worse, according to Santiment, some networks lose up to 25 % of their activity. This gradual desertion of coders, a nerve of blockchain innovation, is not a simple fluctuation. It is a critical signal for a sector that was dreaming unstoppable.
Developers' hemorrhage: a final diagnosis
With 165,700 development events recorded, Ethereum keeps its crown. But cracks appear: -11.8 % activity, -2.54 % of contributors.
A trend that shakes the myth of the invincible crypto ecosystem. The reasons? Perhaps the growing complexity of updates (Shapella, Dencun, etc.), or competition from Layer 2 solutions, which cannibalize attention. Anyway, the giant seems to be breathless.
Polygon's case summarizes discomfort: -21.87 % activity, despite an increase of 0.86 % in the number of contributors.
A paradox? Not really. This suggests reduced and sugentity teams, or projects in maintenance phase rather than expansion.
Same scenario for BNB Chain (-16.25 %) and Arbitrum (-18.55 %), where the marginal increase in contributors (0.78 %to 3.03 %) does not compensate for the decline in innovations.
Avalanche illustrates another facet of the problem: -21.81 % activity, despite +4.49 % of developers. As if collective energy dispersed.
Cosmos combines bad news: -5.91 % of contributors for 43,300 events. These figures betray an ecosystem where new ideas are rare, despite communities still present.
Crypto: between resilience and disillusionment
Despite its recent media rebound, Solana recorded -17.37 % of activity. Hard blow for a network that was betting on its speed to seduce.
However, the number of contributors climbs 2.63 %: a sign that some still believe in the Phoenix, despite repeated breakdowns and persistent distrust.
With -14.9 % of activity and -1.52 % of developers, Polkadot seems to stagnate. Its unique architecture (parachains) perhaps struggles to convince in the face of simpler alternatives. A paradox, while interoperability is more crucial than ever.
Harmony embodies the worst in the table: -24.93 % activity, -2.62 % of contributors. An accelerated decline, a symptom of an ecosystem that has not been able to renew itself after the shock of the 2022 hack. Proof that confidence, once lost, rebuilds in the drop.
These figures do not sound the death knell for crypto, but impose an awareness. The drop in developers' activity Reveals structural flaws: technical complexity, erratic funding, fratricidal competition.
However, some communities resist, even progress (Optimism, Avalanche). Proof that hope persists. But to avoid collapse, the ecosystem must relearn to seduce those who make it live: the coders. Without them, the blockchain is only a decentralized mirage, even if some, like Solana, have reached heights with 11.12 million active addresses.
