Google has just released a new bomb in the race for artificial intelligence (IA): Gemini 2.5. Presented as a “thinking” model, he does not just regurgitate answers: he analyzes, reason, reflects before speaking. With a major advance in coding, reasoning and multimodality, Google hopes to catch up on Openai and its other rivals. But is it enough to shake up Chatgpt, always comfortably installed at the top of the market with 43 % of the shares?
Gemini 2.5: the AI that reflects before speaking
A few days ago, Google finally launched Android 15 in the mainstream version. Today, the company relies on a very ambitious concept: an AI that does not rush into its answers, but which takes the time to “think”. A first? Not totally. But Gemini 2.5 pushes logic further with a massive treatment capacity (1 to 2 million tokens) and an extended multimodality (text, images, audio, video, code).
On the performance side, the figures speak for themselves:
- Number 1 on human preferences according to LMARENA;
- 63.8 % on Swe-Bench Verified, a solid score for IA coding;
- Second behind Claude 3.7 Sonnet in webdev benchmarks.
Google wants to attract developers and businesses in search ofA more “human” AI and efficient. But you still have to convince a market already dominated by Openai.
Chatgpt still the king of AI, but for how long?
Despite the arrival of new challengers, Chatgpt remains unbeatable with 43 % market share. Behind, it moves: Deepseek progresses by +195 % and becomes a serious actor. Google, despite Gemini, still struggles to win. For what ? Because Chatgpt is the favorite tool for users, with a fluid interface and massive adoption. Google plays the technique card, but will that be enough to move the lines?
However, with a deployment on Google AI Studio, Gemini Advanced and soon Green AI, Google hopes to convince. But a challenge remains size: accessibility and pricing. Unlike Chatgpt, whose offer is in place, Google must still prove that its Gemini 2.5 is an essential choice.
Gemini 2.5 therefore has serious assets, but will they be enough to dethrone Chatgpt? Google relies on innovation, but adoption will make the difference. A “thinking” AI is good, but it still has to find its audience. For the moment, Openai keeps the advantage and even ventures into Google's field with Chatgpt Search.
